1998 remake. Marion Crane steals a lot of cash from a man whom her boss is in business with. On the way to see her boyfriend, she stops off by an old motel, run by the odd Norman Bates. She is murdered in the shower. Her sister, boyfriend, and a private investigator try to find out where she is, while we learn more about Norman Bates.

Onto the characters... Anne Heche played Marion Crane, out of all the character she wasnt too bad. She could never replace the original Marion but i'd say she gave it a decent shot. She gave a somewhat convincing performance but in the extras segments when she was sitting in her chair getting her make up done she said ''I've never even had seen the original Pyscho before this'', that suprised me.. William H Macy, who played the private investigator was also good. Juliane Moore was terrible, she didnt even fit the role.
And onto the worst actor of the bunch- Vince Vaughn, Vince as Norman Bates is the biggest joke ive ever seen. Anthony Perkins was a genius in that role and played Norman to perfection, Vince Vaughn is totally unconvincing as Norman Bates and lacks that special something. He was downright foolish in this role. I didnt believe a word he said as ''Norman'' and his voice over of Mother was awful. Another thing , what was with Vince Giggling? It made the character look ridiculous. I couldnt believe the contrast between when norman gives the speech about his mother and talks to Marion when he says ''People always mean well. They cluck their thick tongues, and shake their heads and suggest, oh, so very delicately.. When Vince says this it sounds like hes reading off a paper , it sounds fake, most of his dialogue sounded fake,.. Anthony's you believed.
In this Remake they did almost every shot the same, no diffrence, just weak characters trying to fill the roles. There was some very slight variations in the script, they raised the amount of money, they changed some things around but its still a rip off and not a good one at that.
If you want to see the same movie except 10 times worse because its in color, lacks the talent of the old actors or director of the original and has a totally unconvincing actor in the role of Norman Bates see this... and remember I went into this with an open mind.
The only way to argue for the film would be to claim that its awfulness is deliberate -- that Van Sant's version is post-horror, a portrait of a world drained of eroticism, beauty, sadness (i.e., human feeling). But even if this were true, it still doesn't make it any less painful to watch. This is a lousy film.
