About the Author

After growing too familiar with the pleasantries of the English countryside, Sidney Knight embraced city life in London. It was here that he began ALEX, his first novel which took three years to complete.

A lifelong admirer of literary and genre fiction, he enjoys creating a hybrid of both, writing plot-driven stories with an emphasis on psychologically complex characters.

Walking a different road to most, ALEX is a fusion of crime, mystery, psychological suspense and romance, told with a bold, unflinching style. Knight is happily married and currently working on his second novel which he hopes to publish very soon.

Not Refreshing, certainly wasn't a mystery and barely a thriller, just bad.
Way too many pages of sexual graphic episodes. Maybe the writer thought it added depth to the story, Mr Knight was wrong.
Some of the story read like Dick and Jane .. ".....a thought entered his mind. He had thought of something. He had thought of a way that he could help Alex-maybe."
Just bad.

Cracking crime thriller. The descent into madness and the dysfunctional psyches are superbly written. It's entertaining, and more so since the tones of redemption, revenge, and the damages of social conditioning and alienation speak to you. Intelligent, gripping, simply excellent. SK has my attention and I await his next dark piece.

WOW!! Let me say first of all, I like a happy ending. Even though you understand from the beginning that it's not going to be a happy ending, I still hoped all the way through that poor Alex would eventually find happiness.

This is an over 900 page tragedy. I have not cried so much while reading a book since "The Kite Runner." If you have ever found yourself rooting for the underdog and/or if you have ever had a period of time in your life where you felt like nothing went right for you, you will like this book. There was one point where I thought Layna and Alex would be able to help each other heal and I asked my self, "If Layna's brother hadn't ruin everything, could Alex and Rayna have been able to heal?" It's hard to tell. They were two such damaged souls.

The author did an excellent job in getting inside the head of a paranoid, obsessive/compulsive individual. You can almost feel the pain this person is in. I liked the writing style of this author but he could have used just a little help from a proof readeer.

I found this book by accident when looking for something else. What a great accident that was.

The author gets into the mind of all the characters and brings them to life. They aren't nice or bad but a mixture of both and oh so real.

The reader is told what is going to happen in the first chapter, but by going back and seeing why is so well done in this novel.

Just so you know where I'm coming from - I read a lot. To read a book a day is not unusual but essential for me. I don't usually like books written in the first person or books that start with the ending known. This novel has both of those and really has to be good for me to give it 5 stars anyway.

If you've ever seen a news story and wondered "Why did they do that?" this book is for you. The author is so good at using words to express emotions and the interplay between characters that I was hooked until the end. A true mystery even with some events known from the beginning.

This novel is a cautionary tale about the effects of bullying and the potential for cruelty that exists in more people than one would care to imagine. I found it extremely disturbing. I would recommend it!

I started to read Alex not really knowing what to expect. I'm a big thriller fan and love to read titles from unfamiliar authors. The description of Alex interested me so I took the plunge! And what can I say about this book, thrilling, exhilarating, dark and truly gripping! Alex Merton is an unnerving soul, a true monster! I was well and truly bowled over and genuinely can't wait for Sidney knights next publication! A star in the making me thinks!

First of all I would like to give kudos to Sidney on a great book. I look forward to reading the next book from Sydney. This book was intriguing to say the least, the only issue I had with this book was the ending. Let me be more clear because this is in no way a bad thing, I do not know if there will be a 2nd installment of this book, the ending left me hanging and wanting to read more. I am frustrated right now only because I didn't want the book to end :(!!!!!! I only gave this book a 4 star review instead of a 5 star review because there are some confusing parts in the beginning, BUT with that said once you read all the way to the end all of the confusion from the beginning will all make much more sense! I actually may read this book a 2nd time! If you like mystery/thriller genres then you definitely need to read this book. Can't wait to read more from Sidney Knight.

Alex is even better than I thought it would be. I like films like American Psycho, Fight Club and Donnie Darko and this film is right in that genre. This book takes the elements of psychological thrillers and crime dramas like that and teases it out even more. It is a longer book but I was so hooked and into it that it zoomed by. And I love the attention to detail that the author put into exploring Alex's psyche. If you like thrillers, crime stories and mysteries, you will love this book!
