PSYCHOLOGICAL NUTRITION consists of 10 chapters written in a format that is easy to read and comprehend with not a lot of esoteric terms which would have thrown me into "Google" loop. The first two chapters focus on counting our emotions both (positive + energizing) and (negative - draining) correlating it to reading food/nutrition labels. Many events throughout the day, week, month and even years can lead to a downhill spiral of malnourished emotions depleting ones self-actualization, creativity, and potential. The authors suggest keeping a journal or notebook with the following headings: Time, Trigger, Emotion, Amount of Time, Value, and Response Emotion. By giving each emotion either a plus or minus provides a clear overview and sense of awareness of a pattern in your behavioral reactions.
What sold me on PSYCHOLOGICAL NUTRITION are the many "aha" moments in the book. For instance Chapter 3, "A Tool Doesn't Get a Thank You: Why Being Helpful Helen Drains You." The scenarios are typical examples of women my age that grew up with false fantasies perpetrated by myth and media. (How we should behave, look, feel, think, and so on). Chapter 5, "Chicks Archetypes", states, "When you do not take care of your outer self, you are highly unlikely to be paying attention to your inner self."
PSYCHOLOGICAL NUTRITION should be required read in high school if not sooner for young people beginning their life journey into adulthood.
I have mixed feelings about this book, because in a way it was interesting and gave me some new perspective, in another way it was pedantic in its comparison between emotions and calories and bringing also this comparing too much forward. Anyway I think it could be an enrichment to read this book, specially because of the last part about the feminine divine.

I loved the concept of psychological nutrition, but the execution was rather lacklustre and became more tired as the book went on. In addition the rather literal comparisons are based on out-dated science, which made it hard to take the suggestions seriously. That's a real shame, because the suggestions and ideas are actually decent.
