This book has opened my eyes to understand the constant stream of propaganda bombarding everyone in the modern age. You begin to understand the seemingly plausible articles that are presented every day in all media as blatant propaganda to persuade you to either to buy something or to vote for someone or to support some cause.
I don't care what you do, but please at least be aware of the extraordinary efforts being made to push you one way or the other.
This book shows modern media to be unbelievably persuasive and in my opinion utterly corrupt.
This book explains the techniques used to mold public opinion. And contains many historical examples and a lot of history. Amazing how a book written so long ago is so prophetic.

This book is fantastic for any student of psychology, warfare, or even just the curious. Definitely get the hardback version, though. While the examples are dated (having been originally written in 1948, then updated in 1954) it still applies to modern use and can be extended to modern media and technology with little effort.

The complete 2nd edition (1954) includes 10 charts and 79 other illustrations. ISBN 978-1-68422-725-9 put out by Martino Fine Books in 2022 is complete. I give it 5 stars.

Paul Linebarger wrote science fiction under the pseudonym "Cordwainer Smith." His prose is atrocious, but his ideas are absolutely fantastic.

This book was written to help guide military staff through efforts to psych opponents into either giving up, or into becoming ineffective due to demoralization. It is a slapped-together hasty publication, but it is worth reading as it forms the basis of most modern PsyOp warfare.

I was born three short years after WWII but remember the talk and news reels. I would like too find a book that carries on from the early fifties to the present. With all the new technologies I would be fascinated to see and learn how psywar has advanced. I have seen the psychological damage that was done to men that returned from the war, some of these men tortured for their remaining days on earth never to fully recover barely holding on to reality day to day.

This book is not entertaining, simply enlightening ! It gives a strongly articulate lecture on how modern societies have been struturing themselves through the use of information and disinformation. Linebarger was at the heart of it. He creates the feeling of an era, retracing the steps of modern propaganda to its very beginning. Then tells us how German, English, Japanese and Americans used propaganda during WWII. His explanations are never fancy. They are rigorous and well structured. It is an excellent book for researchers in social sciences, History, psychology and geopolitics.
