I hardly ever keep my textbooks, but if there is one I would consider keeping, it's this one. The formatting is wonderful, and the margins are lined with quotes related to the material in that section. I found Myers' writing style to be very informative and easy to understand, and he managed to make everything interesting. (To explain, I usually dislike the history of things like psychology because I find it boring, but Myers had me reading the history of psychology in earnest.)

If you have a choice of textbooks, I would recommend this one. It may not be the cheapest one out there, but it was very helpful, and it came with free access to online materials. The only con I can think of is that some of the boxes with examples of concepts were a little distracting, but that is something I could easily get past.

This book is easy to read, perhaps, too easy for college-level students. There are pages and pages of analogies, quotes, diagrams and photos (sometimes indirectly related to the material) and numerous pop-culture references. The book could have been a few hundred pages shorter. It's a pain to carry it around, but it's a good book for an intro course in psychology.

As a psychology major, had to order this book for an intro class and I must this provides a wonderful introduction to all basic topics of social psychology. It doesn't breeze over them either, it actually talks in an intellectual way in detail about each. You walk away from reading this with enough of an understanding to have a basic psychlogical conversation and with the hunger for more. I liked hte way the book was divided up becuase it worked in a very logical progression.

I hold several degrees, but it was this book that made me wish I was working on a Psych degree. Myers' book is interesting... it holds the reader's attention and makes you want to know more. I found myself wondering, "So, THAT"S why I behaved this way when such-and-such happened?"

I love to read... just about anything I can get my hands on, and when I am finished with a book, I give it away or donate it. Not this book. It is shelved in my permanent "keep" collection. If you ever thought about a career in psychology or clinical sociology, you really need to read this book.

I bought to use this upcoming year homeschooling my 9th grader. I haven't had a chance to read all of it yet, but I am halfway through with it -- so far, it is good. I think he will learn a lot and stay interested.

Whether you're a freshman or a professor, you can't ignore this essential book. It's not the holy grail, not the most important book of the century, but it is a must have for any psychology student.

True it's not cheap but it is well, well worth it. I have about 5-6 Psychology textbooks and this is my favorite out of all of them. It not only helps you understand psychology but the social sciences in mind as it helps you learn to think like a social scientist: a must, if you are in the field. I also highly recommend this blog dedicated to the social sciences for the psych-soc students out there:

Some uninteresting topics. Never seen a textbook with cartoon caption jokes before which are on almost everypage. A good introduction to psychology geared towards undergraduate college students.
