About the Author
"How on earth does one become an improviser / teambuilder / speaker / speaking-coach / author?" (Milo Shapiro of www.IMPROVentures.com) In 2000, after 15 years of computer programming, I took a huge leap to applying my stage improv skills to business. My teambuilding work with improv led to motivational speaking through the National Speakers Association. A number of other speakers began asking me for pointers, which I was flattered to offer, but then in 2004 something bizarre started to happen: conference attendees started lingering afterward to ask if I would coach them! I found that coaching in public speaking was something that not only suited me, but greatly satisfied me as well -- to have such direct impact on someone's life and job satisfaction. Since then, I've worked with hundreds of people, including CEOs, business presidents, sales people, middle managers, authors...even beauty pageant contestants and unemployed job applicants. I'm so proud of the testimonials on my website from these people -- and proud of their growth as well. I've done duos, trios, and small classes as well, but the one-on-one is still my favorite. Clients asked if there were books I could recommend so I began reading what was out there. Repeatedly, I came to the same conclusion: "I'm bored!" This was a topic I loved, but the books I was finding weren't fun to read. The message was clear: Write a book on public speaking from the perspective of someone who speaks professionally, has both improv and business experience, and has watched a LOT of amateurs and professionals both fail and succeed. The result? "Public Speaking: Get A's, Not Zzzzzzz's!" (available on www.IMPROVentures.com and Amazon) Since then I've also written a fun book of true-life short stories with life lessons (hey, you can only use so many in your speeches) called "The Worst Days Make The BEST Stories...and Other Life Lessons." My third book, "Effluently Yours, Maggie: The Bizarre Christmas Letters of Maggie Jennings" is a hilarious compilation of holiday letters written each year from the point-of-view of my self-absorbed, over-the-top alter ego, Maggie Jennings. A new one was shared every year at a Christmas gathering for 13 years. I'm based in San Diego, California, btw. In case this description becomes outdated, visit www.IMPROVentures.com or search CreateSpace for my name to see what else I've written since this was posted!

Milo has a fun way of presenting and gave us great tips on what to do before we go to our speaking engagement. He impressed upon me the importance of a good introduction and how important the room seating is and what happens to the energy in the room depending on how the audience is seated. I recommed this book to anyone who is planning on speaking whether to a large or small audience.
He was an awesome presenter at a Toastmasters event in Riverside a year ago. He kept the audience engaged.Sandy in Corona.
