There is no way this is the approved manual. Perhaps a first run or someone horribly plagiarized the book. Glaring issues are throughout. Ex: on page 67 of the spiral book: First sentence says "mtending" instead of intending. Same pg 1st sentence under section 3.08 states "only what needs to be said". This section starts with a lower case and it is not a complete sentence! Page 68 says "10-year-olc*" instead of 10-year-old. There are level 2 headings not bolded when most are. I could go on. Be cautious when purchasing.
Personally, I detest APA since I am a historian by trade and write primarily in Turabian. I end up with the same problems there because they updated that version with a new upgrade and made changes. APA will almost certainly be making changes for electronic materials, but until they do you had better be using the formats in this book. So much of this book is vital to your success in the doctoral process, that I highly advise everyone to steer clear of older versions. I know that bites in the reselling, but that’s just the way it is.
I love e-books, but in this case I definitely preferred the print version. I have so many screens open on the computer as it is now. That made me stick with the print version. It also appears that the fifth and sixth printings of the 6th Edition version are the ones that have been revised and corrected the most. So keep that in mind when ordering this book and stick with the newest version or printing. Again, this is a must have book for doctoral students who use APA. Since so much depends on the way you write, you should invest in this book and the newest version of it. This is definitely not the book to cut corners on.
I’ve used it since I got it and it has definitely helped me get to where I am at. Every time I made an error with the formats it was my fault and not the book’s. This is the version my chair has sitting beside him as well as the rest of the committee members. I know because he told me the school sent them the newest versions to use. So there you go. With the high costs of grad school and the length of time you will be investing in the programs, paying $35 or so for this book is one of the best investments you will be making for your education. To give you an idea of how important this book is, my wife bought her own copy for her use because I was using mine so much!
Worst of all, the Kindle edition does not work with Kindle's online reader (read.amazon.com), which is where most people using this book would probably use the Kindle edition.
I've returned the ebook version and will purchase a print copy (oh so 20th century!) at a later date.
If your an undergrad student...this manual may be more than you're looking for when it comes to writing college papers.
A lot of what this book has, and more, can be found on "Purdue dot edu" for free. And, it's comprehensive as well.
If you're looking for a quick reference...I recommend APA: The Easy Way by Houghton and Houghton. I have grown to appreciate it's simplistic approach to the APA basics .
Hope this helped...
