Pulled Apart is a must read!! The story flows and is a quick read! Leigh Stone's writing is amazing and I can't wait to read more from her..
It’s been a long journey to get here. A long, painful journey, I have the scars, nightmares, and panic attacks to prove it. I never would have believed, all those years ago, that Oliver Watson would have been my worst nightmare. I’m not sorry that he’s dead. I’m just sorry that it wasn’t at my hand. I hate him. I hate what he did to me. I hate what he has taken from me. More than anything, I hate him for taking the coward's way out. He was supposed to rot in prison for his crimes, not leave me to be the only one to face what happened.
I’m Juliet Monroe. I’m twenty-five years old and I have been through hell. I’ve learned so much about myself. The thing that I’ve learned most is just how strong I can be, but as strong as I am, without my friends, I wouldn’t be here. I’ve learned that friends can be your lifelines, friends can be your support, friends can be your saviours, and sometimes, they might just save your life.
**WARNING** This book is intended for mature audiences (18+) only. The storyline is a rape survivor's retelling of their story, and as such may cause distress. While acts of violence are depicted, it is vital to the main premise of being able to move on with hope.
Where do I start? Juliet Munroe is one incredible young woman. Her story until now, a little in the dark, Pulled Apart, brings us up to speed on her history with Oliver. The man who she doted on and adored. The man who treated her so poorly despite her already blighted start in life...
Their relationship was good initially but as we see the deterioration of her friendships and links to anyone other than him we truly see his true colours. We start to hate this man...
He was definitely that kind of man. Controlling, possessive, and who would stop at nothing to keep what he thought belonged to him, his to toy with as he saw fit. Something worthless, and less than whole.
His treatment of Juliet was abysmal. From the emotional abuse to the physical...
I hadn't wanted or welcomed his actions. I was violated in the worst way possible by someone I thought I loved, someone I thought was supposed to care about me in return. Nothing would ever be the same again.
But after being released on bail, of course he goes after Juliet. He knows something vital about their relationship and would use it against her...even if it does cost him his and her life. He truly is one evil man.
As Juliet picks up the pieces of her life after surviving his worst attack, he takes much more from her than he will ever know.
I didn't eat. I barely existed. Oliver had left me to barely exist in a hollow shell.
But after a sentence nothing short of what he deserved, he does something which Juliet doesn't know whether to feel relieved about or angered by. He would get to walk away, but she would never have that..
I can never escape what he did, and he has...I am still here, and I'm hanging on...and he gets to walk away from the responsibility of his actions, and will never have to truly suffer like I will forever. He's taken everything...
Her utter desolate emotions are heartbreaking and her strength was astounding. As this young woman pieces her life back together, despite all the anxieties and pressures she does it. And makes some friends along the way. First and foremost, the one and only, incredible Alex;
I cemented a firm friendship with the man I worked for, and I felt like the hole that had frequented felt like it would swallow my soul got a little smaller....
Alex, my boss, and one of my closest friends, took me under his wing, and his strong dominance helps me when I panic even now....with their help I face my future...
It was an absolute honour to read this and despite feeling emotionally hung out to dry after reading this I think just shows the incredible talents of Leigh Stones writing. Her ability to get across Juliet's turmoil and desperation, whilst making it a story of a true survivor was one I will always remember. I just loved it.
