About the Author
Best-selling author Marni Mann knew she was going to be a writer since middle school. While other girls her age were daydreaming about teenage pop stars, Mann was fantasizing about penning her first novel. She crafts sexy, titillating stories that weave together her love of darkness, mystery, passion, and human emotion. A New Englander at heart, she now lives in Sarasota, Florida with her husband and their two dogs who subsequently have been characters in her books. When she's not nose deep in her laptop working on her next novel, she's scouring for chocolate, sipping wine, traveling to new locations, and devouring fabulous books. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Rae Ryan is sad, broken and alone. Her ex found a new love, she was fired from a job, her best friend was MIA and she had pushed her family away. In the beginning, we just know there was tragedy that lead to her downfall and caused a scar on her face that she carries as a daily reminder. Over the pages, we watch her struggle trying to remain upright despite being buried under grief and dealing with the demons within her. She is a fighter and despite all the storm clouds and rain, she moves forwards.
Hart Booker was Rae's high school boyfriend who disappeared without a word or a goodbye. He returns and stirs up so much in Rae including forgotten love, lust, and regret, as well as anger and sadness over his exit from her life. His disappearance was one more brick in the foundation of pain Rae has surrounded herself. Hart only wants to help her, shelter her and be with her. The truth of Rae's past is hard for her to disclose, especially so close to the horrible anniversary at the center of her angst. Without the full truth, Hart can't fully understand and help. When he knows, the tides turn.
I loved how this book unravels, with the slow revealing of the bits and pieces of the torment Rae has experienced. Marni Mann has a unique ability to lead you just to the answer, but leave you guessing and breathless when the truth finally comes to light.
This can be read as a standalone, but I'll tell you to read Pulled Beneath, because it was amazing.
I received a complimentary copy in return for and honest review
I should have known. Author Marni Mann is a gifted writer and gave Rae such humanity, showed the inner and outer struggles of this young woman, and before I knew it, I was deeply invested in these characters. Believable dialog. Real characterization. Poignant story. Sensual romance. It's a proof of an author's talent when one can turn an unlikely heroine, unlikeable character into someone a reader wants to champion! So happy to recommend this powerful women's fiction.
I found the author again who has achieved favoritism amongst my already favorite authors in this book. It was beautiful. Mann writes books that guarantee darkness, that guarantee survival, gorgeous storytelling, and great sex, and Pulled Within delivers. It is brilliant because no one reads Pulled Beneath and wants to read about evil-ish Rae (at least I didn't) and then you pick up this book and you definitely want to read about Rae. Mann reverted to that tortured soul I found in Charlie in Seductive Shadows - the survivor - and made it happen freshly with a twist that I never saw coming. Her lyrical style pulls you in like a slow burn, and her damaged characters break you down. Rae makes you cry, tears you to pieces, and gives you something else that I can't describe other than if I said
In darkness I look for the stars
With every book, Mann achieves this magical air in realistic fiction: it's like she knows you and is all like
I'm gonna write a book for that one person
She's a literary sorcerer as far as I'm concerned. I've always wanted to write a book wherein the protagonist fell in love with the reader. I haven't done it yet, but reading a Marni-book is kinda like that, and probably as close as I'm ever gonna get.
This story is beautiful and makes you feel like no matter what happens in life, anything is possible.
Rae had a beautiful life until a deep dark secret was exposed. Then her life went tragic fast. She has had to live with this deep dark secret and haunting memories and has no release of them. She has an amazing best friend and his father who became her family and helped her through so much but still weren't able to help her vanquish her demons. Through a rediscovery of her friend and some interesting things along the way Rea, along with the help of newly returned Hart, manages to push her way through.
Hart is back and he is successful but he has never forgotten the one thing he was forced to leave behind.....she is still here and still the same but with nasty scars....what happened to her and can she love him the way he has always loved her?
Hart and Rea reconnect and rediscover wach other, trust and love in this beautiful tragic story. Will the strength she feels from Hart be enough to help her conquer her inner demons and shed the dark hauting past?
