It's a great opener - simple, easy-to-use. I steer clear of those ridiculous contraptions that go to great lengths to pull a cork in every way but the most simple way. I recommend learning how to open a bottle with a simple corkscrew - you never know when you'll have to open a bottle and don't have your fancy gadgets to do it for you.
I suppose I'm not used to it just yet so I found it to be "different" than the cheapo one I've been using for years and years. I definitely screwed it in way too far on the first attempt. I'm sure after a little breaking-in period (for both me and the corkscrew), it'll work just fine. The one thing that I so far HATE is the foil cutter. I don't know... although it's serrated I didn't get the foil cut on the first spin. Again, maybe a matter of practice makes perfect.
Now for the REAL vs NOT REAL... Mine did not come in fancy retail packaging but I still believe it's real, here's why... Do a search on the internet and you find this isn't the only model that Pulltex makes, but it's certainly the least expensive. All over the internet the MSRP for this corkscrew is only slightly higher than the price here, and you can certainly get one for the same price elsewhere. So if you're not feeling all warm and fuzzy about this least expensive model, make yourself feel better and spend more money. Ciao, e pace!
