In today's world of modern conveniences, everything we rely on is run by electricity. But what happens if the power we take for granted turns against us? Old man Holger (Charles Tyner) knows. He claims electricity is a living presence, whose voice can only be silenced by getting rid of anything that can hear it. Bill Rockland (Cliff De Young), however, refuses to believe him. It must have been an accident when an electric spark ruptured the gas pipe that nearly killed Bill's son (Joey Lawrence). And it's surely a coincidence when his wife (Roxanne Hart) is severely scalded by their electric water heater. But when his own power tools attack him and an electrical fire turns their home into a blazing inferno, Bill realizes Holger may have been right after all, and perhaps the time has come to finally pull the plug.

Just watched "Pulse" from 1988 on Blu-ray. Stunning visuals, mostly practical as opposed to CG. Lots of completely mad shots of electronics going bonkers! Very inventive cinematography. Not too gory. A scarier and classier movie than I expected! <3
(Ignore the ridiculous cover art BTW...not in the film.)
Also, this film has no relation to the 2006 and 2008 "Pulse" films.

It's got things going for it, and it's a lot of fun

Even though this film didn’t have a deeper feel to it, like I usually prefer in my films, I enjoyed every second of Pulse. In fact, it left me wanting more. I felt like I couldn’t get enough of that naughty electric pulse. I can see why not too many people paid attention to this: it does lack some things. The characters aren’t necessarily at the heart of this movie, but they’re good enough. The dialogue isn’t at all bad, but it still needed a little spicing up. The acting also deserved some real credit, as it was much better than I expected. The ending wasn’t predictable and that is always nice.

Despite these faults, it’s the uniqueness of Pulse that makes it fun. Timeout said that Pulse was “a tense little thriller with a touch of the Stephen Kings.” I agree.

I’m shocked that this movie doesn’t get more love. It’s such a well-made and artfully crafted thriller with some outstanding effects work and a strong 80’s aesthetic that only adds to the enjoyment. I had only seen it for the first time recently when it was streaming here on Amazon, and immediately purchased the Blu Ray. And it’s so cheap! The picture quality is great and while it doesn’t offer any extras, I’m not complaining for the price. I love introducing this to people who’d never seen or even heard of it.

I give these filmmakers credit for being really creative in the way they depict the malevolent energy taking over and controlling the appliances. The camerawork inside furnaces, tv's, water heaters, garbage disposals and electronics is really well done. They show solder rearranging itself in circuit boards and thermostats and natural gas appliances changing to become lethal. The acting and story are weak but this is worth a watch for the creative stuff. Moderate recommendation.

After a long long wait, Pulse finally gets released in the UK on Blu Ray.
This is by far one of the most underrated horror movies ever. I loved this movie the first time I saw it and still do to this day. Unique and chilling plot accompanied by a fantastic score that generally makes this film a must watch.
The Blu Ray was easily a must have for me. The quality of the Blu Ray is by far the best I have ever seen this movie, however it is not the best upscale i have seen. Picture is clearer but still sketchy and grainy. The audio is better than ever but again not brilliant for Blu Ray quality. For a low budget underated classic however it's still worth it. This movie deserves a higher fan base. £16.99 well spent.
