This is another great book by Erin Trejo. This time she takes on the Chicago underground!! Tala is a woman who is no stranger to the mafia. She was raised in that world, but thought she left it behind when her father left the country. Unfortunately she gets pulled back in. Cole and Jamie are two brothers that are on opposite sides of the law, Cole is the king of Chicago’s underworld and Jamie is an FBI agent. They both want Tala but for completely different reasons. Is this a classic case of good verses evil? You’re going to have to read it and find out!!
The characters are strong, and the storyline is well written and thought out, with plenty of twists and 'Say what now' and 'oh no he didn't' oh and my favourite 'But what about?'
This book ticked all the boxes for me.

ღ Two brothers. Two different sides of the law.one Chicago king pin, the other is FBI…➦ Tala walking into a war between brothers. Now she have to decide who she working with.
► Tala Gregori is half American, half Filipino twenty-six-year-old woman that works as a bank teller. She live alone in this small two-story house. Her parents moved back to the Philippines six years ago to be closer to Tala mother’s dying sister. Now that they are gone, she rarely hear from them. Until recently
►She grown up not knowing what was real or now,, she didn’t know until later in life that her father was criminal
♥●• she had no idea the twists of fate that were headed her way that day when she met in personal with the 2 Frost brother’s
►Cole Frost is the kingpin of the Chicago underground & not a man that you cross.
►So you can imagine when Cole show up on Tala door step informing her that she is now his new employee, & how she had no choice in the matter.. For fear of Cole taking retribution on her or her family if she dare to deny him
►Jamie Frost. One of the youngest, yet top agents for the FBI. He’s Chicago based, much like his brother but they are on opposite sides of the law.
►Jamie Frost is looking to take down his older brother Cole Frost with the help of Tala Gregori.. Or so he hopes
In between all the lies & betrayal- blood & killing- love & money, Tala finds love, but did she fall for the right brother?
► one way to find out how the story play out, is to “one click” this book & find out for yourself
💕 I really enjoyed Pulse & I am excited to see what Ms. Trejo will writes next.
📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion & my honest review
💕 ✎Paulette Review ❤💕
Tala grew up dealing with the underground thanks to her father. Now older and wiser she doesn't want anything to do with it.
Cole is in charge of the underground. There isn't anything that happens that he doesn't know about. He needs Tala's help with the books and doesn't give her a reason to say no.
Jamie is FBI and wants to take down his brother. If he can get Tala's help even better.
Can Tala choose which brother to help? Will it all be for nothing in the end?
There were so many twist and turns with this book! I loved not knowing who did what.

Erin Trejo is an author who likes to push boundaries with her writing. She paints characters in more than shades of black and white. No matter how dark the story her characters are colorful and multifaceted.
Pulse is a criminal underground novel and I had to actually read it twice. I read it twice because the first time I really couldn't get into the story. The second read was so I could figure out why I reacted so poorly to this book. Conclusion: I felt it was cookie cutter and the writing felt off.
I know! Saying the actual writing feels off doesn't explain anything. But, it is difficult to explain. The closest I can come up with is the writing didn't feel polished. This goes with the cookie cutter comment. It felt like any other underworld crime romance where the reader isn't sucked in. the reader doesn't "care" about the characters. It's a fluff book. Not saying all of Trejo's books have to be spectacular, poignant. or the best book I have ever read...she is still a great author.
