2 c. all-purpose flour
4 T. sugar, divided
1 T. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1/4 t salt
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
1/4 t. allspice
1/2 c. butter
2/3 c. canned pumpkin
1/2 c. buttermilk
Sift together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices in a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; set aside. In a small bowl, whisk together pumpkin and buttermilk. Add to flour mixture and stir to combine. Knead gently a few times. Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut using around biscuit or cookie cutter. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet and sprinkle tops with remaining sugar. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, or until lightly golden. Makes one to 1-1/2 dozen biscuits.
