How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Im used this tool inside and out.. I scraped my large pumpkin in no time, despite my muscle weakness from lupus and spinal damage. The toothy side can make smooth scrapes easily by dragging the teeth at an angle instead of straight across. Im tempted to give 5 stars, but I'll reserve that for if and when they make a thicker handle.

I’ve used it for acorn squash & butternut squash. Does the job well. Leaves a little stringiness and slightly awkward to hold for small hands but it’s great for the cost.

Better than the little scoopers that come in the kits, but still had to use my hands for some of it.

I purchased 3 or 4 of the Norpro 682 Anti-Freeze Ice Cream Spades from Amazon.com last year because of an Internet recommendation from a famous pumpkin carver. (Sorry, I don't remember his name! He has written books on the subject and has a useful website where I found his tip for this ice cream spade. Thank you whoever you are!) The Ice Cream Spade works very well for that job - MUCH better than any typical round metal or plastic ice cream scooper, but this year, after we carved 10 pumpkins, I felt I also needed more of a serrated edge at times to really grab hold of the stringy pumpkin stuff and to take off more of the skin even faster on the wall I'll be carving on -- and, thanks to the reviewer above complaining about high shipping charges from a company that Amazon.com uses -- I looked elsewhere and found this pumpkin scooper with 2 serrated edges by Pumpkin Masters at PartyCity.com. Party City calls it a "Pumpkin Scooper 8 1/4 in." Pumpkin Masters calls it a "Deluxe Scraper Scoop" and says it is "Frightfully Fast"! They are around $6 each (on 11/19/10 they were on sale for only $4 each - and ordering 4 of them will cost you only $7.95 in shipping). I've only just placed the order for 4 of them (I need multiples because I have pumpkin carving parties) so I can't review this Pumpkin Masters scooper yet. I just wanted you to know of other pumpkin scooper options out there. The Norpro 682 Anti-Freeze Ice Cream Spade is very sturdy and works very well on cleaning out Halloween pumpkins (the large handle doesn't hurt your hands like large spoons utensils or tiny orange handled pumpkin carving scoops that come in pattern book kits will). I look forward to trying out my serrated scoopers next Halloween and will give a review about them then.

GOOD - Serrated side cuts through pumpkin like butter. Regular side quickly smooths insides out and removes large amounts of pumpkin.
BAD - Cheap plastic design (Very Flimsy) Design is a little awkward. (I am right handed and had no trouble scraping the inside of my pumpkins with the serrated side. When I switched to the regular side I had trouble scrapping backwards. I had to switch to my left hand to pulling the opposite direction.
This tool is great for removing large amounts of pumpkin from the inside. I like to thin the walls of the pumpkin down to about 1/2 inch for easy carving. The tool would be MUCH better if it was all metal. The plastic handle attached to the metal spoon head is very flimsy. I held the scraper spoon by the spoon head the entire time I used it. It would also be nice if the spoon head could rotate around so that it could be truly ambidextrous.

I used this scooper for the first time today, and I love it! I had my 7lb pumpkin gutted in about 10 minutes, tops! It made scraping out the inside really easy too, but it was hard to use the smooth side since the teeth go more than half way around the scoop. I am also surprised the plastic handle stood up, since there was some bending while I was scraping the inside of the pumpkin. Being able to get the walls so thin (about half an inch!) made carving a lot easier and it went faster than usual too. Will definitely use again for years to come, but may get a backup scraper just in case.

Worthless. Completely broke on first use. I would have paid more for better quality and all metal. Great idea, poorly made. I'm sick of falling for gimmicks from Pumpkin Masters. I hope to find a similar product from another brand.

This little scooper works amazingly well, especially for its size and price. The serrated edges on the spoon-part (top and one side) are great for scooping out all the stringy goop, and it does it remarkably quickly. I've never been able to do as thorough a job cleaning out a pumpkin as I have with this tool. Bravo, Pumpkin Masters!
