These three words sum up this story well. The story is simple and then turns silly. Duck wants to make a jack o'lantern to surprise his friends. When he falls inside while scooping out the seeds, he goes looking for them to get him out with only his feet showing. They think that he's a pumpkin monster, and a silly mixup ensues.

The cartoonish drawings and bright colors perfectly complement the story.

My almost 2 year old daughter wants to read this book over and over... It's a simple storyline written in a comic-like format, but the bold illustrations, simple dialogue and silly plot make it a favorite for toddlers and preschoolers!

My daughter first took it out of the Library and my Grandson loved it. As a surprise for his first day of Pre-K I ordered it for him. He loves it, it's just funny and silly and of course right now he thinks pumpkins are cool.

Synopsis: Duck wants to make a jack-o-lantern. As he is scooping out seeds, he falls into the pumpkn. His friends Pig and Mouse see him running around looking for help and think he is a "pumpkin monster". Duck is also scared of the pumpkin monster (not realizing it is himself) and runs around until he smashes into a barn wall. The pumpkin breaks, and Pig and Mouse announce that Duck has defeated the monster. Duck is so happy he decides to make a jack-o-lantern to celebrate.

My 3-year old is in the memorizing short books stage of pre-reading and adores this book. The story is simple and the bright colorful pictures easily go with the words for a pre-reader to figure out. It is all told in the character voices (no narration) and it's hilarious to hear my son "read" the book with all the appropriate emotions of the three silly characters.
