I also adore music based books, and I think it does its duty in the music/rocker aspect. It wasn't flouncy or girly or proper, it was a hoot to see. I love working with super bulky yarn and colorwork, and the variety in yarns to use in each was reasonable to me.
Concerning the types of patterns, I went in knowing that they most likely wouldnt have my size (since it is so funky) and that I probably wouldnt do the funky drop stitches and I still loved it. Did I want the striped sweater in bigger sizes? sure, but its fixable.
Most of the "punk" effect comes from drop stitching and yarn overs.
There are some basic wrist and arm warmers, a few sweaters, scarves and bum warmers. There are also patterns for a tie, a pillow and a guitar strap.
One downside of the book is that most of the yarn used is wool. Trying to substitute for non-animal fibers can be difficult.
This is not a book for beginners. There are no knitting instuctions with the exception of how to do a drop stitch, a yarnover hole and button holes.
Overall I would say that this book is a keeper.
This book also gives some good tips on making things look frayed and torn up without having to actually tare it to get that "punk" look ^__^
