About the Author

Tamsen Schultz is a published author and three time finalist in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association annual competition. She worked in the field of international conflict resolution and co-founded a non-profit prior to attending law school and since graduating has worked as a corporate attorney. Like most real lawyers, she spends a disproportionate amount of time thinking about what it might be like to do something else – like say be a CIA agent or a forensic psychologist. She lives near Seattle in a house full of males including her husband, two sons, a cat, a dog, and a gender neutral, but well stocked, wine rack.

This is the first time I've written a negative book review but in all fairness, I feel this book warranted one. The quality of the writing and editing was so poor that, for me, it completely overshadowed the story line. I had a hard time finishing it, and, in fact, asked for a refund of the purchase price. I realize this book is getting rave reviews from some, however, I wouldn't recommend it. Let's hope this author's next offering is an improvement, or that she was assigned a different editor.

So I have to start by admitting - I've read A LOT of romance and romantic suspense books over the years. I love my Kindle because now I can even read them in public. But despite the fact that the genre gives me a lovely escape from the stress of an all consuming corporate job, I am constantly aggravated that most main female characters in these books are one dimensional, co-dependent women. Finally, with the Puppeteer, we have a writer that understands how to portray a strong leading lady with all the complexity of emotions around a commitment to a career and a growing desire for a personal life that so many of us feel. The main character, Dani is kicking butt and taking names at the same time that she's finding a way to become a little more vulnerable and fall in love. Seriously - how can you NOT love this book?!

This was one of the best books I've read in some time. The characters were superb and I am about to check out the authors other books to see if she has any side stories on them. There were a few slow points here and there, but i finished the book in just a couple days. I thought it was a page turner. Well developed characters. Their backgrounds unfolded nicely, letting the reader understand the characters emotions (or lack there of) and what drives them.

The best way to sum up the type of story would be a Criminal Minds type CIA team (not profilers, think more former SEALS). You have brains, brawn, good looks, intelligence and cunning. Each team player has a vital role and each character is unique. Won't go into any plot details, but there is action, romance, a little politics, and revenge. Great read!

I, too, am having a hard time reading this book. I don't think I will finish it. It is shallow & predictable. I don't like to give a negative review, but it's beyond my understanding that it has gotten so many 4 star reviews and I want others considering the purchase to have a well rounded choice of reviews. What are the reviewer's comparing this book to if they can give it 4 stars? What would they give a classic?

Tamsen Schultz really is the thinking woman's romance writer. She manages to instill her characters with a complex authenticity derived from their adept professionalism and unaffected intelligence. Dani and Ty have a difficult job to do under suspenseful and dire circumstances. Their mutual attraction simmers, despite their commitment to let nothing interfere with bringing a murderer to justice. While determined to keep their growing attachment from endangering the mission, their personal respect for, and ultimately commitment to, one and other is cemented for good. Schultz's sense of emotional tension and timing is perfect, and she keeps you hooked to the very end.

50 pages into The Puppeteer I put it down and emailed friends about it. Then picked it right back up. Thoroughly enjoyed, characters as real as they get. Smartly written. Looking forward to the next from this author.

Love this book! Perfect mix of suspense, romance, and exceptionally well-researched writing. It was very hard to put down. I had to restrain myself from reading it all in one sitting. Tamsen Schultz is a fantastic writer! I'm 1/3 of the way through A Tainted Mind and love that one too! Excellent writing and completely interesting and addicting characters with depth.

I found this book on the free list, and look forward to further works from this author. Fast paced and enjoyable. Ty was great and Dani was pretty good, a couple times I thought her super woman attributes were overstated, but overall not bad. The book was a little predictable, but it moved along nicely.

I hope this becomes a series , I would love more Fawkes,Jay and Drew.

Kept my interest, fairly fast paced, and while there was a romantic undertone there were not any graphic sex scenes, the romance takes a back seat to the storyline.I was surprised by that especially with how the book starts out, but trust me they don't race for bed once they realize it could be something more. It was nice to see a relationship develop with out the constant graphic sex.

If you like spy type books with a dash of romance this is for you.
