This book was ok. The beginning was kind of dry because of the heavy details of fire control and fire jumping. It made it hard to actually get into the book and characters to begin with.
Carly was a smart and capable woman. She knows her job and is excellent at it. I quite liked her. Steve starts out as a jerk and it took me a long while to warm up to him. He got better once we actually started learning about his past and his injury. The romance between them was pretty good and wasn’t drawn out like I thought it would be in the beginning.
Overall, this book was ok. I enjoyed it once I got past the beginning details and into Steve and Carly as a couple.
The plot is full of insight into wild fire fighting and even has an adventure book like twist toward the end. It is well written and takes the reader into a helicopter over a wildfire, about the wildfire base and to a quaint bar that I for one would not mind visiting.

I enjoyed this book but think the next will be ever better, as with all new series a lot of time was spent on setting things out and it will be good to get into more of a story next time. For example the terrorists only turned up fifty pages from the end. I would have liked to get more into the meat of things.
Still worth a read
The characters, plot, pace were excellent but to me I never think about this when reading a book, if I enjoy it and it keeps me guessing, reading and wondering who the bad guys are (if any). Then to me it has achieved its purpose of keeping me enthralled. Well done M L Buchman for the above book but also your others. Can't wait for the next book.
