Of all the characters in this book, I found KENDRA the MOST ANNOYING! She is even MORE SCREWED UP than Gabriella, who at least had a few more morals to actually have sex with only TWO guys, although I must admit I found the twist of the relationships with the two half brothers the most compelling aspect of this series. I do believe the author could have taken a bit more time to be more realistic about how the relationship between KENDRA and EDWARD could have been established or evolved, although I found it inconceivable how Edward could have found Kendra an appropriate substitute for Gabriella, and worth enough to be the recipient of his true and "tender" love when this girl was a skank of the first order! Gabriella had scruples; she just couldn't fight the attraction to Flynn, which is the whole point of the PURE LUST -- Flynn's behavior and connection to GABS was NECESSARY to the theme of lust in this series, and I actually liked his character despite his cruelty to Gabriella, which I found lined up with the fact he was fighting his attraction to/for her. It's important to remember how young Flynn really was as well -- he was 25 to Gabriella's 22, and both Edward and Kendra were far more worldly in terms of their age and experiences in spite of Flynn's reputation with his models and women. Cody provided the perfect foil and revelation to us when he mentions how well he knew his brother to Gabriella, and the way he was "jonesing" and obsessing about her, yet the author chose to portray Gabriella without a full set of brain cells because of course she didn't even latch on to that fact! I agree with someone's comment earlier that Edward and Kendra were "douche bags" for "falling in love" while Gabriella was in a coma and then recovering. Kendra was too obviously sticking around more for EDWARD'S sake rather than Gabriella's, and in turn, Gabs ends up looking the idiot for failing to see how she's being bamboozled. Moreover, remember KENDRA was a chick who hooked-up with a new man nearly EVERY NIGHT, partied and drank until she was falling-down-wasted, regurgitating all over the place, at one point into her own PURSE, and appeared to have the morals of an alley cat. What was totally unrealistic and hypocritical was the way she CRITICIZED Gabriella for being dishonest with Edward, and then distanced herself after fighting with Gabriella about not appreciating Edward. At least GABRIELLA was selective and really only got it on with Edward and Flynn. In my opinion, I believe KENDRA put herself in Edward's way, and took advantage of his inherent Galahad nature. Keep in mind this is a girl who had been around the block, if not the city, with different provocative, attractive men, and she, more than Gabriella, was the one looking out for a man with connections and money! I simply did not like her character, personality, or what she did to Gabriella, despite the fact Gabs claimed to have been happy as long as she had Flynn at the end. NOT! I cannot stand that no one called Kendra on her lack of morals and her alcoholic tendencies. The scene when she forces their relationship on Gabriella? She "insisted" on pouring wine, for Christ's sake! ARGHHHH! I cannot STAND women like her!
Now for the loss of the 2 other stars. Really, "Flynn and I's?" That would be "Flynn's and my families." And a preposition always takes "me." That would be "for Flynn and me." An easy way to figure that out would be to take out the "Flynn and." You'd say "for me," not "for I."
So, either poorly proofread and edited, or this USA Today bestselling author has a really poor editor.
Otherwise, I recommend the author. She has a good grasp of the human condition.
Loved the characters. Great overall story. I'm definitely reading more of her books but this ending y'all... I just need some time to reflect. ;)
