Fundamentally simple and simply fun, the Urban Fixie Road Bike starts with an elegant urban geometry frame made from durable high tensile steel and hits the road with the flip-flop rear hub — enabling you to choose how you ride.
- Brand name components include Wellgo Pedals, WTB Thickslick, VP, and KMC chain
Flip Flop Hub: Freewheel or Fixed Flexibility
Pure Cycles chose a flip-flop rear hub to give you the flexibility to ride fixed or freewheel. Riding fixed gives you an unmatched feeling of connectedness to the bike, the road, and helps you perfect your pedal stroke. Riding freewheel gives you the ability to coast and cruise. No matter what you choose, the standard front brake gives you the ability to stop either way.

Arrived within two days with Prime so I could ride it in time for the weekend. It came well-packaged in a standard cardboard bicycle box, lots of foam paper, taping and bubble wrap to protect the frame and parts. I found the easiest way to take it out was to pull the whole bike out in one go rather than fish pieces out one by one. It comes with a few extras including front and back reflectors, a sticker pack, and a detailed owner's manual.
I'm a first time bike builder so I had to go buy some tools including a hex key set, pedal wrench, and tire pump. Putting together the bike was a piece of cake, I'd say the only mildly challenging part was to remove the back wheel in order to flip it (making use of the very convenient flip-flop hub) so that it ran on the fixed cog instead of freewheel. I'd say the best thing is to watch one of the YouTube PureFix videos (the newer ones with George the mechanic).
In terms of looks the bike is real snazzy. The road is also pretty good. I haven't really put it through its paces yet but so far so good cycling around my neighborhood. I'm 5'10 with an inseam of 32" so the 54cm bike was perfect.
Next i'll be wanting to purchase some straps and bullhorn handlebars.
I have 4 stars because I am a keen reviewer. I save 5 stars for an excellent product, but my 4 is equivalent to 5 for others.
I love the bike a lot. It took me a week to get used to with fixed bike. I still cannot skid, but resisting the spin sufficiently slows and stops. The skid may require pedal covers, but that seems too much for me.
I read some negative reviews on the shipped Kenda tires, so I ordered a set of puncture proof Continental 700x28c straight away. The Continental tires feel so much more solid, grippy and safer.
I'm exactly 5.11" and I followed the advice to take the smaller 54cm frame and I'm very happy with it. The sitting position is comfortable also over a 30 mile ride and it feels very handy and maneuverable.
One problem I came across was a slight slip of the rear fixed cog when changing pedal directions. It wasn't enough to tighten the lock ring with the spanner out of the box. It needs a brutal sprint to tighten the rear cog clockwise first, then you can take the lock tool and tighten anti-clockwise. Maybe they don't do it factory side hard enough and if you don't have a chain spanner that's the easiest way.
I will add a rear brake despite my admiration for pureness to turn it into my default commuting bike.
Foot straps are a must. I also ordered them with the bike straight away and I'm glad, otherwise my feet are flying off while going from full speed to stop.
I haven't gotten into all the backward riding, 180 degree flips, wheelies and skidding yet but the bike definitely invites for experimentation and bodily expression. In any case it makes you feel immediately superior to everyone shifting their 28 gears around.
tldr: The bike is great. Great value, lots of fun, it looks beautiful, fast shipping, just change the tires and tighten the rear cog through a hard forward ride before the final tightening of the lock ring.

If you have uneven pavement, your back is gonna suffer a lot.
P.s. The rest of the bike is great!
