Asayake Facial Massage
Asayake means “morning glow” in Japanese. This type of massage calls for the palms to be chilled with cold water to tighten and awaken the skin. Repeat the following five-step process five times.
Step One: Apply moisturizer onto your hands to allow them to glide on the skin. (Refer back to pages 59–63 for the best moisturizer for your skin type.)
Step Two: Gently massage your hands up along your neck.
Step Three: Move upward from the center of your chin along the jawbone, applying light pressure.
Step Four: Lay your fingers against your nose and move outward along the orbital bone.
Step Five: Place your fingers above your eyebrows and glide upward toward the hairline.

It also includes skincare ingredient recommendations, facial massage and the Japanese diet.
This is my ritual using the steps from this book:
- Purify: Oshima Tsubaki Oil
- Polish: Homemade finely ground mix of organic adzuki beans, rice bran and nori sheets
- Plump: Evanhealy Rose Geranium HydroSoul
- Nourish: Evanhealy Rosehip Treatment Facial Serum
A lot of the book is a love letter to the author's beauty line, Tatcha. I personally haven't used the line because of its expensive price tag as I've already found products that work for me that aren't so cost-prohibiting.
Overall, this book is a pure unnecessary luxury, but I totally fell for its beautiful aesthetic and occassionally pull it from my bookshelf to refresh myself and get inspiration the simplicity of Japanese skincare.
