Well after reading this I am a fan of westerns and seeking out Westerns. I am reborn!
Getting back to the book. Franklin E. Wales is know for his witting in the horror Genre. He is at the top of his game when writting such novels. But he goes above and beyond his writting capabilities with this classic take of a classic type western!
As usual through his visuals in writting your taken to the town of Purgatory. Through the dusty streets, through the jail cells to the main setting of the Saloon! It has all your characters that you would need to set the scene. You have your sheriff, barmaid, the girls of the bar and your good and bad guys!
The set up of all the characters and how they finally cross paths is well paced and well executed at the end, that you really feel for filled with the climax.
For once when you read a novel you actually feel like you were in Purgatory and seeked your revenge and will rest in peace!
I read at the end this was originally meant to be a movie but it fell through. It was so good of an idea it was translated to a novel. Well the novel worked and I feel if this was a movie at no matter what scale it would generate interest.
The world of movies as well as novels is flooded with color by numbers rehash of oldies. This is something that takes form the past and so so well improves it with its fully animated characters and strong storyline. There ARE no dull moments and this novel fast paced adrenaline rush will have you reading it in one sitting. Its that good!
Frank I love your horrors but you turned me to westerns, I hope you revisit this genre and turn out another masterpiece!
