Performance Nutrition For Active Dogs
When it comes to endurance, dogs are naturally great athletes. And just by feeding them the right dog food, you can improve your dog’s athleticism.
Energy To Excel
Unlike humans, your dog’s main energy source comes from fat, not carbs. Our Sport formulas offer a diet that is high in fat and protein to increase an active dog’s metabolism and his endurance.
Endurance To Reach His Full Potential
When comparing things like oxygen use (VO2 Max, a measure of athletic ability), even dogs who sleep all day have more endurance than the greatest human athletes.*
Our Performance Formulas help to optimize oxygen metabolism for increased endurance.

Making the Switch to Pro Plan: Although you'll be anxious to see the difference Pro Plan can make in your dog, please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily. Feeding Weaning Pups: Start puppies on dry or moistened Pro Plan as early as they begin to nibble at solid foods, generally 3-4 weeks of age. Recommended Daily Feeding: We recommend that you keep your dog in ideal body condition and not allow your dog to become overweight. The exact amount of food your dog requires will need to be adjusted according to age, activity and environment. But a good place to start is with these guidelines for an average, active, adult dog fed once daily. Feeding Growing Pups: Feed pups (to six months of age) all of the moistened Pro Plan they will consume at intervals throughout the day. If fed dry, Pro Plan may be kept before pups at all times. Feeding for Reproduction: Pro Plan provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's ideal body condition Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation. For your pet's health, see your veterinarian regularly. Store in a cool, dry place.

As a conscientious pet owner, I appreciated that Purina has a dog food that has real meat as one of the main ingredients. However, I am not one of these "dog food Nazis" who demands that their dogs lips don't ever touch any dog food that contains corn, corn meal, or other vegetable products. First, this ingredient is not just a filler. Corn is a good antioxidant and good source of fiber so there is nothing wrong with corn in dog food. It is also used as a binder to keep the kibble together. 100% meat dog food plus something else besides vegetable meal used as a binder combines to create a VERY VERY EXPENSIVE dog food. I love my dog, but I'm sorry - I'm not spending 100's of dollars a month on dog food. And that doesn't make me a bad person. I know that dogs aren't raised to dine on corn, but the modern domesticated dog is an omnivore. They are also "PETS" and aren't raised to run wild in the woods and pull down a deer to eat every day so lets be sensible about this - ok?
So in my opinion, the Purina Pro Plan Sport All Life Stages Dog Food is a good middle of the road dog food for pet owners that care about their pet's health while also being somewhat cognizant of the overall price.
These dogs love it and their poo is great! (Yes, I judge the food on the quality of the poo my dogs produce.)
I have a greyhound and a Lagotto. Anyone with a greyhound knows they can be rather gassy. My Belle
has not been too gassy and when she is, she does not clear a room. And that is saying something!
OK, Stacy, Why Did You Choose Pro Plan?
After doing a lot of research about the dietary needs of dogs, it came down to the ingredient list. As with any product, the label on the side of the package names every item used in the recipe. Labels are listed in the order of quantity; thus the first ingredient listed comprises the largest portion of the recipe. After reading several competitor brands and continually seeing grains as the first item, I opted to check out the specialty dog food. When I flipped over the bag, Pro Plan's ingredient list was different; the first ingredient was meat!
Now, dogs eat pretty much anything, but their primary dietary needs are met with meat. So I ask you, why would you spend money on a product whose recipe contains mostly grains and/or carbohydrates? Pro Plan does contain fiber, but it is not the principle ingredient. Tasty cuts of meat, not bone meal or “mystery meat”, is used to make Pro Plan. When you take the knowledge that Purina® took the time to formulate tasty recipes that also have the vitamins and other nutrients to keep your dog healthy, it doesn’t matter that Pro Plan costs more; you know that you have a high-quality product.
But, Does Your Dog Like it?
