What a huge difference this makes, our attempt to describe the difference of clay based industrial products to this natural material litter wouldn't do it justice. Our cat wasn't initially pleased with our decision without his prior consent, but didn't take long for him to accept the change.
I'm not sure why this is so difficult to find in pet stores, since I do think it's a great product. I end up ordering 2-3 bags at a time, so I'm not without. My cats have been using this in their litter box since I adopted them at 8-9 weeks. They're almost 3 now. As long as Petco and Tidy Cats continues to offer their respective kitty litters, I'll keep buying.
Reeeeeeally like this litter for it's oder control and pleasant smell - but its scent when used by itself is pretty strong. One of our cats despised the smell of it let me know right away how she felt about that. The other cat thought it was his new sandbox to play in, so in true toddler fashion flung it everywhere digging holes to China, just for the heck of it. Little turkey-meister!!! So, with various trials, I found a mix ratio with our standard store-brand clumping clay litter that satisfied So, I fixed them both and through various trials of ratios, found that about 50/50 is perfect for achieving the clumping necessary to hold together for scooping, oder elimination without expensive powders to sprinkle, and the satisfaction of both kitties using their toilets appropriately.
CLUMPING - 0-1 STAR
The litter does technically "clump" around urine and has the appearance of holding together until you try to scoop it. It's a very weak bond and doesn't withstand even light shaking to separate out in the scooper which results in particles everywhere. After repeated and heated complaints from the pooper-scooper child staff, I experimented with it myself and found "it's NOT all in the wrist" and is essentially useless as a feature.
1-star for clumping, since it technically does form a clump, but ZERO STARS for actual clump performance in removing from the box.
TRACKING - 3 STARS
This litter does cling to furry paws and tracks in every direction - but IT IS made of wood, so you have to expect that. Good litter mats and large ones at that take down about 80% of the tracking, but regular vacuuming is required nearby.
By average, I should give this only 3-stars, but because it serves the purpose for which I intended it (as a blended, order control solution), I am giving it a 4 star rating.
Back to my purchase--I got the one recommended on the table for young kittens, and I am very happy with the product. So is my Annabel. :) Thanks Tidy Cats!

Tracks like a mofo though, does not do well in small quarters.
