Another Good Story

This is the second book in the “Adventures of Tremain & Christopher Series”. It is shorter than the first book “Missing Yesterday’s”, and does contain some treachery, violence, injury, and even death, but it is still a good adventure story for young adults. Imagine some of Indiana Jones movies, with a few new twists and obstacles, and you will obtain a feel for this story’s action scenes.

I’ve been impressed with the author’s inventiveness with regard to Tremain’s inventions. His character (Tremain) believes that if you see a need, build something to fulfill that need, and he seems more than capable of doing just that.

Looking forward to finding out what happened to the Mayflower descendants. I suspect and hope that they went elsewhere as opposed to dying out as a culture. Guess we will find out when we see where the ancient tunnels lead (maybe in their next adventure). Then again, maybe we could learn more about Christopher’s Dads disappearance in the next adventure. Bringing him home would make for a heart warming story.

In any case, I’ll be reading book 3, whenever it becomes available.

The Purloined Pictograph by Terry Marchion explores what may have happened to the first settlers, called the Mayflower people, of an alternate colonized like earth. When a treasured artifact is mysteriously stolen, Christopher and Tremain join forces again to visit the dig site where the artifact was originally found. But what surprises may be lurking inside there?

This is the second book in the exciting action-adventure series following Tremain and his nephew, Christopher, though it can be read without needing prior knowledge of the previous book. Fans of Indiana Jones movie series and the Uncharted video game series will find this series both enjoyable, containing danger, unexpected visitors, some violence and nail-biting puzzles needing to be solved in order to avoid the danger awaiting for them.

The only issue I stumbled upon other than finding a couple extra words and misspellings, was the formatting in some of the chapters in the kindle edition. POV of multiple characters would be all shoved together in the same paragraph, making it very difficult to understand and follow.

Overall, this is a delightful tale that is appropriate for middle-grade readers.

Tremain and Christopher get more adventure as they become involved in trying to help friend and fellow scientist, Hollis Perlmutter, whose assistant found a pictograph believed to be from the original settlers on New Earth that had separated from the rest of the colonists. The pictograph gets stolen, the archeological dig becomes hijacked, and Tremain and Christopher are in for another wild ride.
Again, I enjoyed the humor, science, action and good-hearted characters.

Christopher is launched on an adventure when his gadget-loving uncle Tremain’s treasured artifact, the Purloined Pictograph, is mysteriously stolen. Christopher joins his Uncle Tremain on a trip to visit the dig site where the pictograph was found. When Christopher accidentally discovers a hidden passageway beneath the ground, the true adventure begins. What powers does the artifact hold? And what secrets will it reveal about an ancient civilization? This is an Indiana Jones-style adventure with some super-gadget technology thrown in. Some violence and minor characters die, but it is not gory. I’d recommend it for 6th grade and up.

Another great book by the author. Again, this has a fast pace and is easy to read. The techie side is detailed and adds a great deal of depth to the book without being overwhelming. The author has done a great job of making advanced technology feel believable and integrating it into the plot. The characters are developed, the "colony" is fresh and the story is exciting. I think you'll like it... I know I did.

Along the way, they hope to recover the important artifact that just may lead them to their goal. The setting is quite earth-like and easily identifiable, as are the characters.

Well written, with strong characterizations, the twists and surprises make this an adventure suitable for any young reader.

I'm a visual person and I heavily rely on the writers to give me good descriptions so I can picture the scenes in my head. Terry Marchion has a talent of explaining scientific terms and creating visuals in readers' minds. It's like watching a movie in my head while reading the words. Highly recommend it.
