This book really pulls you in and makes you want to read it. ~~ Amazon Customer
This is the story of P.I. Serena McKay.Serena has been through things that no one should ever go through, yet she wakes up to fight another day. This story is about the abuse/murder of a child. But it is more than that. Its about the abuses and the horrors that Serena dealt with all her life. Serena is a fighter, and no one is going to stop her. This book deals with the darker sides of life and not for the gentle at heart.... Much love to Chariss K. Walker, she did an incredible job of writing this book. Its a must read! ~~ Angela Winters
From the Author
Some topics, regardless of popularity or pleasantry, need to be discussed. Child abuse is one of those topics. We can no longer turn a blind eye to the worldwide epidemic of pedophiles. This book delves into the aftermath--what a person might feel and how they might act after they have suffered through and survived any form of childhood abuse... whether physical, sexual, or emotional.

When Serena wants to do hard drinking, it's at home. However, this night she was drinking vodka at Scotty's Pub where Jimmy was the bartender. He's a gentleman and knows her well.
“'You’re a good man,' I praised. 'Thanks for giving me space to nurse the troubles. Solitude is usually where I find solutions.'”
In her work Serena does unpleasant jobs and people want photographs to prove or disprove something. "I use black and white photos. It isn’t the harsh reality of splashy Technicolor. Vivid hues make an indelible impression. Still, any picture is hard to forget. As they say, ‘worth a thousand words.’ It imprints itself on the brain and psyche. Soap and water won’t wash the images away either. Nothing will."
Serena learned more from her foster family than from her own mother, Cleary. "Relationships usually boil down to a couple of questions without judgment: What do I want from you? What am I willing to give back in order to get it?"
This book contains adult language and situations.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. That did not change my opinion for this review.

But then an infamous killer escapes.
He is after her.
She will be ready I am quite sure!
A dark, but great read.
This is a story about Serena, once detective, now P.I. It's about the dark side of humanity - murder, rape and abuse both in her past and the present...there is a serial killer to catch.
I am not sure if I enjoyed it because it was so dark and maybe could be seen as depressing, however, I did appreciate its gritty tone and the characters were reasonably believable. Not too badly written for the most part, with some action mixed with self-exploration.
Worth a look for those who enjoy the dark crime genre.
But it didn’t take long before I was sucked right in & turning pages like crazy at times. There’s plenty of action, some twists and turns and interesting characters with witty dialogue. However, this strangely unique, dark storyline portrays a hopeless, morally depraved, male-dominated futuristic setting and no HEA in this book, but hopefully in a future book in this series. Due to explicit language, abusive and graphic details, I strongly recommend this for [adult 18+] readers. I received an e-copy in exchange for my honest review, and I know adult fans of fiction thrillers and ‘dark crime’ genre will not be disappointed!
