IT MELTS! If you want this for your car, forget it.
1. Incomplete and ridiculous product description: If you live in a climate where the temperature would kill a child or dog left in a car, even with the windows cracked, don't buy this product. There is absolutely no mention in the description or details online stating "Be careful when leaving your Purple cushion in the car when it's hot. Like the Wicked Witch of the West, it can MELT (my emphasis) under the wrong circumstances. If your seat cushion gets above 105F, do not sit on it or move it. This could permanently damage your seat cushion! Wait until the Purple is below 105F (up to 30 minutes) before moving or sitting on it. Placing your seat cushion in the shade on the car floor or under the seat should keep it from getting too hot." They take the time to mention "no more seat sweat" but make no mention of the PROBABILITY of melting. Unbelievable. This warning, however, is included in the package. See the pictures.
I'm not joking about dogs and children. It happens a lot. Even one child (or dog) is too much. Just do a search on "internal car temperature chart" and you'll see how quickly temps rise in cars.
Here's some problems with their solution to put the cushion in the shade on the car floor:
a. Direct sunlight doesn't matter for temperature in Florida and other hot climates.
b. It rains a lot in Florida. Even if I did move it off the seat, I'd have to move it back to sit on it. In a car, it's so much easier to do that when you're not sitting in the seat you want to put the cushion. Easy enough when it's not pouring rain. In south Florida, it seems to rain every day in the afternoon from May through November. That means you get in the car as fast as you can. June - September are the hottest months. Add the melting, the rain, and the hot months, and this was a worthless purchase. I bought the cushion to use in the car.
2. Lousy Customer Service
Dealing with 1a and 1b, I debated with myself for quite some time, do I want to carry this cushion in to work with me every day? I'd have to carry it in with my purse, lunch, and laptop. The cushion would then make 4 things I'm lugging, and it's quite a distance...in the hottest months, often in the rain, so add an umbrella. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth it. When I decided to return it, I discovered I was two days past the return date. I wasn't home when it was delivered. They probably thought it was great that it was delivered early, but I don't, Evidently, they count the 30 days starting from the day of delivery. They delivered it almost 2 weeks early. When I ordered it on 1/12, I was told it would be delivered between 1/26 - 2/5, which was perfect. Turns out it was shipped on 1/15 and it was delivered 1/19. I requested a refund on 2/20 via Amazon's site and was denied because I was a day outside the 30 days. It didn't matter that they didn't completely describe their product. We went back and forth over several days. It didn't matter that they actually delivered it too early (that's usually a good thing, right?). Nothing mattered. They didn't offer any resolution. Perhaps their portable product? Perhaps even thanking me for pointing out the incomplete product description and a commitment to fix it. They offered NOTHING. They held to their 30 day return requirement, even though they failed to do the right thing with a complete description.
Their product description does mention "seat sweat" and their product description mentions "swamp butt." But they can't give key information about melting. Their legal disclaimer says, :Actual product packaging and materials may contain more and different information than what is shown on our website. We recommend that you do not rely solely on the information presented and that you always read labels, warnings, and directions before using or consuming a product. Please see our full disclaimer below." Well, Purple, if you can talk about seat sweat and swamp butt, you can talk about melting at 105F on your sales page.
So, I'm following through on my commitment to them with a review of their product description and customer service, complaint to Amazon, and any other appropriate venue. I don't expect Purple to do anything at this time, but if one person in a hot climate who wanted to use it for a car sees this and is now fully informed about what the downside of this product is, then that's one less person that is disappointed that it won't serve their purpose.
I apologize if the pictures are rotated incorrectly - the system won't let me adjust it.
One other thing that makes it poor for use in a vehicle is the fat that you cannot leave it in the car. The cushion will melt at 105 degrees. I didn't try it. That is stated in the instructions. The interior of a car gets hotter than that if parked in the sun. And the cushion is heavy to carry around.
The cushin is very comfortable and does not overly compress; you feel the cushining effect hours into a long drive. I also started using one in my office chair which eleviated the slightly off design leading to some lover back strain and "numb butt".
The cushin itself retains its shape very well.
The cover is like a black cloth bag with a zipper for eacy removal and laundrying. That is the only weak area from my observation. The fabric started to pile faily quick with getting in and out of the vehicle repeatedly, sliding into a comfortable position. It hasn't become thread bared yet but it will only be a matter of time; based on the piling I'd estimate routine use in a vehicle and the cover will wear out within a year.
Definitely will buy another for the other vehicle too.
This thing isn't wide enough or long enough to support my small backside.
I'm 6 foot, 185 pounds, with a 34 inch waist....a slim to average size man....but I hardly fit on this thing.
I bought it to make my driving job a little less restless... sitting in a car seat for 8 to 9 hours a day can make anyone antsy....but this seat is far too small and I just feel like I'm using all my muscles just to stay on the dag gone thing....I keep feeling as if I'm going to slip off it...not just because the nature of the gel waffle framework, but also because I'm hanging off all the edges.
Don't buy this.
