I read other reviews and am really surprised that no one mentioned Maddie's interaction with Gigi towards the end of the book. This part of the story made the story line feel deeper, the characters more real and dimensional.
The writing made me feel like Maddie and her family were just a little more "real world" We all lose our cool, speculate, say things we wish we hadn't etc... so at least for me it is refreshing to read a book where not all characters are perfect or close to perfect. Now I wouldn't want the series to be a drama, but a little real world makes it seem more genuine.
I was kept guessing until the very end and I will be waiting for Book #3, #4, #5, #6 and so on.
Now with the cafe opening Maddie is glad she is back with her family and running another successful business, her business partner had even joined her to help get things up and going. Things start off pretty busy for the new cat cafe when one of Maddie’s volunteers happens to get into it with a wealthy patron. To make matters worse after leaving the lady sends to the local police to investigate.
After everything is calmed down and the police are satisfied it was just a mutual disagreement with no need for the law Maddie forgets all about the incident. That is until she and her grandfather get yet another visit from the law, this time with the news that the very same patron had been murdered the night before. With Maddie’s staff in question she can’t let the crime stay unsolved for long so she begins to look into the matter herself.
Again the Cat Cafe Mystery series had all of those cozy elements you would hope to find in this genre, likable characters, frisky felines, and a murder to solve. Maddie again has her hands full with plenty of suspects as she tries to clear another person she knows. In the first book I warned it had the makings of a love triangle going on but that seems to be fizzling out and the hopes on one love interest although the “romance” is barely touched on in favor of the crime solving. And of course again I’ll look forward to seeing where the series goes next.

I want to start my review off with this announcement: I was not a fan of this book but please read other reviews before making a decision if this book is for you. There are plenty of reviews praising this book. I think it was just not for me, which happens. I would suggest you start the series with the first book, Cat About Town.
The mystery was good as there were a lot of red herrings to keep you guessing as to who the murderer was but there was too much going on and too many characters. I had to keep flipping back and reminding myself who was who. Especially in Maddie's love interests. I found the love interests to be distracting to the story.
Let's talk about Maddie's father...a self-centered jerk! I know I am not the only one who thought this about him. He cared more about his precious job on the hospital board than two of his own daughters. I am thankful I have a dad who would have told the snobby board to stick it wjere the sun doesn't shine!
If you love cats and mysteries give the Cat Cafe Mystery series a try, you may love it.
