What an opening. What a funeral. What a will-reading. What a squabble of relatives. Just fantastic: an old lady really having fun with her will.
And it was a really enjoyable read. It kept me on the edge of my seat, kept me awake when I should have been sleeping and introduced me to the somewhat different perspective that women have on life - and fashion - and the opposite sex.
So many suspects too. And they kept changing and swapping around until, really, I didn't know who had done what to whom until the last couple of pages. I wonder if the authors did.
Buy this book and read it then look out for the next one. You'll miss a whole new crime-reading experience if you don't. Congratulations, Melanie and Cynthia.
Enjoy.

In A Purse to Die For, fashionista and television celebrity, Gina Monroe, is returning to her home town to attend the funeral of her late grandmother. However, what should be a simple funeral and reading of the will turns deadly when a dead woman turns up in the woods behind the family home.

When more dead bodies turn up, Gina is left wondering if the death of her grandmother was natural, or something more sinister.

A Purse to Die For was my first foray into the Canadian writing of Melodie Campbell and Cynthia St-Pierre, and if this book is anything to go by I am anticipating more fabulous mysteries from this duo.

From the start I really liked our amateur sleuth, Gina. She has sass, style and a great attitude. Sure there is that thing that she's pining over her cousin, but that aside! It was fun watching her try to solve the mystery. Even with the scattered by the authors I wasn't able to solve the mystery just before Gina, and combined with romantic angle I was hooked and eagerly anticipating the denouement.

All in all, A Purse to Die For was a really cute mystery and I'm really hoping there are going to be more books in this series, as I think Gina has more than enough amateur sleuthing skills to solve another murder or two!

I read this in one session. The words seemed to leap off the page. A fun read with a kick-ass original ending. I didn't see it coming. Blew my guess of whodunit out of the water. If you read for plot, this is a great book.

This was a nicely crafted mystery novel. The build up to the climax was excellently done, and the unexpected ending was a refreshing surprise too. I look forward to reading more of this author's books - A Purse to Die For was my first by Melodie Campbell, and now I'm a fan!

I expected A PURSE TO DIE FOR by Melodie Campbell and Cynthia St-Pierre to be a very, very light cozy; based on the title, the cover and the fact the protagonist is described as `fashionista and television celeb Gina Monroe'. But it was a fast paced, page turner that wasn't all that cozy, set in Canada. Gina goes home for her grandmother's funeral and the reading of the will. All the relatives are gathered together under one roof. That's never good. There are suspicions that Grandma may have been helped along to her death and two other deaths soon follow. There's a romance, a relative who is not a relative, a lot more money than anticipated, an unusual will and plenty of motives. You'll be certain you know the killer. Twice. But you'll be wrong, which always makes for a good mystery. I will certainly look forward to more by this writing duo.

I really wanted to like this book. The story line was pretty good but the character development seemed off. I really couldn't see where Nellie fit in or what purpose she served in the whole of the book. At first I had trouble figuring out who was first generation and who was second generation and then I kept forgetting who was the parent of the next generation. It just seemed out of synch to me. Unlike some of the other reviewers I could see the ending coming. The actual culprit was poorly developed and not very well woven into the story line. This book was ok and I would try reading another book by these authors. It just isn't at the top of my list and I doubt it will go anywhere.

This is a first mystery book written together by two female authors, it really works. A family attending the funeral of an elderly lady, Mother and Granmother to them. Did she die of natural causes? Then another murder happens and the family come under suspicion with the local police, another murder happens and events come to a head. This is a well written story, the plot is strong as are the characters. I was kept guessing right to the end as to who the killer is. This is an enjoyable book to read.

The authors of this book took a new approach to mystery writing. I found the plot interesting, however, the road to the ending took to many detours. If your in the market for a mystery with one to many chapters, than read A Purse to Die For.
