The Purse is an interesting mystery, full of twists and turns. Lydia Blackwell comes home to visit her dying father and finds out that the mother she thought died when she was little is still alive. She meets a stranger at his funeral who gives her an antique purse that belonged to her mother. This sets off a trail of murder, kidnapping, and family secrets revealed.
Lt Sonja MacIntosh is assigned to investigate one of the murders and she and Lydia have an instant attraction to each other. Together, they work to unwind the story of Lydia's mother and who the mob figures are who have so impacted Lydia's life.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the relationship between Lydia and Sonja and how it evolved. Overall, I liked the evolving twists in the story, though I thought a few were a bit too coincidental (her highway car breakdown was one). Still, the writing was good and I will definitely read more by this author.

Awesome book, with a great plot. Combines the mystery and suspense with characters you get attached to. So many wonderful twists that it keeps you hooked and on the edge of your seat the entire time, but not so that you get confused. Loved it and looking forward to another book by the author!!

This novel is certainly a page turner. The reader follows Lydia Blackwell as she slowly uncovers the secrets surrounding her parents' sordid pasts. Along the way, Lydia finds love and betrayal in some pretty unique places. There are plenty of surprising twists and turns to keep the reader highly engaged throughout the novel. There are a few instances in the novel that seem too coincidental or too drawn out, but the author reels the reader back in using some very lovable, unexpected characters. Well written and obviously well researched.

I read Julie's book....I'm not much for reading but after getting into it, I had trouble putting it down until I finished it. The storyline kept you on edge wondering what was going to happen next. Julie's ability to write and develop such an intriguing series of plots is amazing. I encourage everyone to give "The PURSE" a serious read.....you'll be amazed.

"The Purse" by Julie A. Burns was a good read that kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. I enjoyed the story line and how the author developed her characters personalities. I've not read a book before with the two main characters being gay and I wondered if I would be comfortable with that. But the personalities of Lydia and Sonja were very likable and I found that the further I got in to the book, the more i liked them and was rooting for them all the way. Their love for one another grew as they encountered and dealt with the people, challenges and obstacles on their way to solving the mystery and learning just who the bad guy was!!I There was enough mystery, love and crime to keep my interest peaked.
