This was my first book by Manders. In fact, it was the first I'd even heard her name but I like discovering new authors so I was excited to give it a try while it was free on Amazon for Kindle.

I found I really enjoyed the story line and characters. I liked that there were a few different points of drama throughout the book that kept my interest. I also loved that she was teaching herself how to catalogue books with the Dewey system to create her own library. That was totally fascinating to me. I love libraries and I loved that historical point in the book.

My favorite part of this book was Carrianne's strength. I really liked that anytime Rhyan tried to get too close to her that she pulled away or walked away because she knew it would be a mistake to get too close. I think most of us could learn a lot from that example. I also loved her putting her relationship with God over her relationship with man. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story continues in book 2.

There were a few aspects I didn't love. The word "heady" was used too many times in my opinion. And the backstory for Rhyan confused me a little bit in the book when it went back to talk about his relationship with his father. Neither issue was enough to detract from the story but did keep me from rating it higher.

I didn't love the ending but since I know there is a book two I'll survive. I've just gotten used to the new way most authors are writing books where all books are standalones and don't require reading the previous books to enjoy later books in a series.

An exciting opening begins PURSUED as heroine Carianne Barlow is placed in jeopardy, a gun held to her neck. She has just arrived from the East to a town in frontier Nebraska. She plans to diligently carry out the stipulations of her grandmother’s will—to use the inheritance to establish libraries in these remote towns, enabling women to improve their education. She is rescued by Rhyon Cason, a complex man with quite a reputation. Besides being a rancher baron, he is comfortable in Washington, D.C. social circles. He helps Carianne pursue her goals, while she discovers the true man behind the handsome face.
I really like the main characters. Carianne works hard to fulfill her obligations and remain honorable. Rhyon is a strong, protective man who has been misjudged by some of the townspeople. The suspense in this story builds at just the right pace as questions arise about the threats being made. As the attraction to each other grows, there are some difficult issues to face, requiring love, understanding and forgiveness…a complicated and involved story.
I always enjoy author Elaine Manders’ books. She weaves just the right touches of historical detail in her stories. The reader experiences the true feeling of stepping back in time into those western locations. It’s obvious she does her research as she blends the facts seamlessly into the story.
I love a book where I’m invested in the characters. PURSUED is such a book. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to these two intriguing characters as their future unfolds in the next books.

A wonderful story, I have not read anything this good in a long time. A young lady goes west to start a library and help women grow within themselves. Her aunt left a large sum of funds to her. If she married she will lose the remaining funds. She believes in God and bows of she was to marry some day, he must have faith equal to hers. She starts a library, but s seen by a rancher who falls deeply in love with her on sight. He realizes she is not wise in ways of the world. He stays in contact with out courting her. He hired her to work in his ranch library. The ranch hands, housekeper, mutual friends, detectives all play a role in this story. It is full of real life events which makes it seem real. This is a clean Christian romance that is hard to put down. I found a new author that I enjoy her writing style and hope to read more of her books. If it possible to give a higher rate g of 5 stars I would.

Historical Western Christian romance and mystery

Enjoyed the mystery/crime aspect of this extensive novel, but the romance was somewhat prolonged and unresolved. However, having lived in Nebraska, certain social and political aspects were confusing. At the time of the story, abolition was long-time resolved and prohibition was many years into the future. Although most agree politics is a dirty business, Nebraska might have been the wrong choice of States as the setting for corruption. Also, from experience, when a storm might involve a tornado, one ducks and covers, not socialize in front of a fire in the parlor. Although the cover model is attractive as a prairie settler, she didn't live up to the book's description and dress of an Eastern socialite. The mystery aspect maintained my attention throughout, but the book definitely needed a concluding epilogue.

I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue along with the romance in this book. I stayed up until after 2:00 in the morning to finish the book. I was satisfied with the end but then realized, I wonder if there might be more? So, I checked what the 2nd book of the series to find it’s more intrigue for the same characters. Obviously, I had to buy it!!!👍
