Amy finds it hard to believe that someone as handsome as Gervaise, a man that has had women vying for his attention for years, would ever find her captivating. After all, Amy has spent the majority of her adult life involved with improving agricultural practices. Hardly something that would intrigue a man like Gervaise.
Lord Pascal is tired of being just a handsome face and is bored with young, silly debutants. He is intrigued by Amy's fortune, but more importantly, by her resolve not to be just another conquest like all the others in his past.
I found this installment in Anna Campbell's Dashing Widows series a thoroughly enjoyable read. The characters had depth and the storyline was thought provoking and sensual. This author never disappoints.
I did like both H/h from the start. There is a secret he has kept from our h. I thought oh here we go, a huge fight and they will break up for awhile. then realize they can't live without each other and get back together but NOPE. They do something comical - like talk it out - so refreshing!!
There is very passionate lovemaking - a lot of it and somewhat descriptive. We do get HEA, no cliffhanger and a romance that builds slowly.
I am not going into the premise, as many have explained it, just what you may experience reading it. (ljb)
So now we have Amy taking her chances with a rake, the rake falling in love with her, the rake knowing he has to treat her carefully, and Amy being sure they could never be happy married.
Although predictable, the story is still told well.It does seem to end abruptly.
For those who care, two long and detailed sex scenes (with a no-kissing rule imposed by Amy for most of the time).
As ever in the course of true love, things are never easy and when Amy discovers Gervaise' reasons for wanting to marry her, all her insecurities raise their ugly heads and a HEA seems to be drifting out of reach.
Beautifully written with a strong cast of characters, this book held me captivated form start to finish.
