About the author

I am a native of France, born in the city of Nancy, in Lorraine. I was a little girl in WWII but retain vivid memories of those horrible days. At age 19, I married an American GI and followed him to America. We had two sons but the marriage ended in divorce. I worked as an accountant for many years, then as a realtor. My minor in school was Art and Interior Design so, being a Gemini, mixing accounting and art was no problem.
I now am very happily married and live in Ooltewah, TN, a stone throw from Chattanooga. My husband Kevin, a foundry engineer, and our little Yorkie Lucas, enjoy our home in this beautiful city.
I have always loved history and writing, so of course the first novel I have published is an historical novel, entitled "In Pursuit of Abraham." It is actually based on the true story of my grandfather.
Idled by the war he decided to write a novel about the Jewish heroines of the Old Testament. His research lead him to synagogues in Paris, and the German SS thought he was a Jewish sympathizer and began to pursue him.
For his and my grandmother's safety he decided to leave France and go to the Middle East to complete his research. He actually did follow the footsteps of Abraham and his clan, and left me his never published manuscript.I have translated and incorporated several pages of the book he wrote in 1943 into my novel. Of course the protagonist in my story encounters a much different experience once in the Middle East.
I am so happy that now, 70 years later, some of my grandfather work is being published. Pretty neat having a co-author who wrote 70 years ago, on a different continent and in a different language, don't you think?
This is not a religious book, but as you follow the life of Abraham and Sarah
you are reading the exact words written by my grandfather.
I'm now working on a sequel, not yet named. I've also published several blogs on the internet, and published a short story in a book entitled "Projects Keepsake."
When not writing, I enjoy painting in several media (visit my website to see some of my art work. I also enjoy cooking (French cooking, of course.)and knitting, traveling, and interior design. Love my life!
I am also a pilot and love languages.
Please visit my website http://francinefuqua.com and look at some of my blogs. A very popular one is the one I have written about the history of French cooking. While there, take a look at my art page where some of my art is showcased. I welcome your comments: Francine@francinefuqua.com. Thank you.

The story takes place during the German invasion of France. Georges Moncel escapes France and a loveless marriage to pursue his dream, his passion. His goal is to write a novel about the women of the Abrahamic era. This passion takes him to Cairo where his travels begin leading him up to Damascus as he intends to write a novel around the women of this Biblical era. Stalked by the Germans, he leaves his wife in Paris and ventures on journey that changes his life.
The story begins with the atrocities of the German occupation of his home country, his travels to escape France, and lands him in Cairo where his journey begins. Well established as an academic among his peers and friends, Dr. Moncel takes on the task of following his dream and the path of Abraham of the Bible. Love, betrayal, self-realization, and humanity at its worst and its best are melded into a story that flows with the fluidity of a rushing river without being overly dramatic or gratuitous.
Once I opened the book I could not close it. There are no dog eared pages, no bookmarks, only an occasional thumbprint where I held it to pour a cup of coffee. My heart raced from scene to scene as the plot reached a fevered pace. And, when I reached "The End" I wanted more. As a bonus, the Kindle version offers the first chapter of the follow-up book. Now, I am waiting, somewhat impatiently to see where the author goes from here. A marvelous read!
This novel took me to places that I had only dreamed of. As a lover of history I understand from that perspective the trauma that war caused in the European theater. This story was told in a manner that opened a window and allowed the reader to visit France. To feel the pain of the people, to smell the fragrance of the markets and to understand that war took away many things but the people held on to their cultural grace.
The journey into the Holy Land took me to a place of real intimacy at a spiritual level. I have heard those biblical stories all my life. To travel to Egypt via the written word merged my mind with a historical component that seemed real to me. For me that is what great works of literature should do.
Francine, thanks for sharing your spirit in this novel. As I prepare to read it again, know that I will share a more detailed review.
