Put Me in Detention Kindle Edition
"You got married on your divorce-cation?"
That would unfortunately be correct.
I was hanging with the girls, celebrating my divorce when I saw him, my crush, sitting in the corner of the bar all alone. Being single and looking for a wild night, I asked him if he wanted to join me. To my delight, he said yes.
Drinks were consumed, fun was had and then . . . one drunken conversation with a cranky gondolier in Las Vegas led to an Uber lift through a drive-thru wedding chapel with the incredibly hot, British bad boy, Pike Greyson.
On paper, it seemed like I hit the jackpot. And if I wasn't fresh from a toxic marriage, I would have absolutely noticed the finer things about him.
But I wanted nothing to do with being married, so when I arrived back home from my eventful weekend in Vegas, the last thing I expected to see was a new doting husband already moved in.
I asked for an annulment, he pulled a Ross Geller and said no.
That's right, he said NO! Instead, he asked for three months to prove we could be good together.
Insanity clearly knocked him in the head and the only way I could convince him to give up on our sham of a marriage was to show him just how wrong we were for each other. Only problem with that was, he saw right through my every prank, every trick, and every yearning emotion I attempted to mask.

Ever since reading his appearance in the last book, mysterious Pike Greyson has intrigued me. The snippet of chemistry we got between him and Cora had me waiting on the edge of my seat for their story, and it exceeded every one of my expectations. I loved everything about this story and no doubt about it, my heart was invested. The characters were EVERYTHING and I completely fell head over heels for Pike and Cora, and their love story. Pike is all kinds of delicious. Sweet, selfless, sexy, and a little possessive, he definitely stole my heart. And Cora in turn was feisty, fun, a little lost, and a hot mess. There was a lot for her to discover in her journey and a mountain of growth in her character.
While this story was obviously heavily centred around Pike and Cora, a special mention has to go to Keiko's side plot and her unlikely yet super sweet friendship with Pike. Quite possibly my favourite part of this book!
Everything about this romantic comedy made me all sorts of happy and I honestly couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. Meghan Quinn pulled out all the stops and threw a few surprise twists with the plot, and I couldn’t have loved Cora and Pike’s story more. The way she blends the humour with genuine emotion is one of the reasons I find her writing so addictive. Put Me In Detention had everything I need in a romantic comedy; chemistry, humour, steam, depth, and emotion, but also the ultimate happy ending which made me genuinely tear up. I could not put this book down, laughing out loud at times when the banter and bickering became too much to keep it in. It completely swept me up into a whirlwind romance which was much needed this time of year.
This was so annoying and was the first in a series of DNFs for me.
Firstly, don't give me a prologue that basically summarizes the first large chunk of your book. The prologue was fine, then I had to read the entire story long and drawn out when you already told me what happened? I tried to read it... then I tried skimming it after I got bored... I made it about forty pages in before I decided I didn't care enough to continue.
The characters were bad. The hero was okay I suppose, I hadn't gotten to him too much yet but the heroine was kinda annoying. It wouldn't have been so bad if her friends weren't off the charts, eye gougingly, awful. Keiko (yes, hers is the only name I remember because I wanted to reach through the pages and stab her) was atrocious and completely unbelievable. Whoever sat through that woman's entire story deserves a damn medal. I get that the author was trying to make her awkward and sciency but it was just ridiculously out there. I would have even been able to deal with that if there weren't just these HUGE blocks of dialogue for her. Eventually, I just skipped over those in entirety and guess what, they weren't needed. I still knew what was going on. Then again, maybe because the prologue told me everything already. Who knows.
Bottom line, this was so bad that I'm annoyed it's even sitting on my kindle and is enough to make me not pick up another Meghan Quinn book for years to come.
See Me After Class was the first book and was Greer Gibson & Arlo Turner’s story. Next was Earn Your Extra Credit and was Stella Garcia and Brock Romero’s story. And this is Put Me in Detention and is Cora Turner and Pike Grayson’s story and maybe Keiko’s story too. I am not sure if she will get her own book.
Cora is in Vegas to celebrate her “divorce” and Pike happens to be in Vegas too. Cora has been attracted to Pike since he started teaching at the high school. They ended up getting drunk and married in Vegas only “what happens in Vegas” doesn’t always get to stay in Vegas. Pike teaches at Forest Heights High School. The same school that Arlo, Greer, Stella and Keiko teach.
I absolutely love Keiko and I loved it when she called Cora a “nitwit”. Keiko reminds me a bit of my niece with her stilted and brilliant conversations. It tore me apart when she was so open with Pike about being friends.
Pike was a truly nice guy! I loved him! Cora was a bit mean at first because she didn’t want to be married again.
Meghan Quinn is such a master at pulling out emotions from this reader. I laughed, was tearful and then laughed some more!
I was fortunate enough to have received an audio copy to review and it was such a delight to listen to Narrators Vanessa Edwin and John Hartley. I listen to most of my books via the text to speech feature on my Kindle. So it was great to be able to listen to this book, with actual live narrators! Put Me in Detention was even more enjoyable as an audible book!
I think the next book for Meghan Quinn is The Reunion and we got a little taste of it with the Novella The One Night. Let’s just say I am looking forward to reading her next book! In the meantime I give 5 stars for Put Me in Detention!
