Very pleased with the purchase. Also, it doesn't make a lot of noise when moving it around. I adjusted its positioning while recording a podcast and the move wasn't discernible.
One side note: The Mic cord that comes with it is very closely integrated into the unit, so there is no way to remove it. For me, it's not providing any benefit as I'm using a USB mic. Still, perhaps one day in the future, I'll be glad that it's there.
A commenter on my review mentioned that they weren't having the same luck with theirs in terms of being able to hold the weight of a yeti as I described. Perhaps I got lucky with timing/manufacturing or some other factor, but mine is still doing the job well. I captured a video in my current highly sophisticated sound booth to illustrate. I really hope my experience doesn't turn out to be an anomaly, as I'd hate to mislead people. But I stand by my original 5 star rating.
Neg: 1.) The threaded black plastic piece that screws into the bottom of the Yeti appears to be an adaptor to fit a larger aperature female mount on the mic. The threads and the piece overall are cheap plastic that was rendered useless almost immediately, and I was gentle with it. The metal, smaller diameter threaded piece underneath the plastic one is much better. Thankfully, the Yeti accepts both.
2.) The Yeti and Radius II together are too much weight for the joints on this arm to handle. I REALLY have to crank down on the thumb screws to have them stay put, and then it is tenuous at best. If using the Yeti/Radius combo, I'd suggest a more robust boom stand.
The boom I ordered ended up being shorter than I would like. Obviously this is not the manufacturer's problem. I would definitely advise getting out a tape measure prior to ordering and see what the listed dimensions actually look like.
Overall, meh. Not impressed.
It has significantly cut down on vibrations that my yetti would pick up from being on the same desk as my computer. Not to mention it helped cut down on my yetti picking up every little motion i do. the mic came with a shock mount that doesn't fit the thickness of the yetti, but i feel the shock mount isn't needed with a yetti, IMHO. My fellow podcaster has the shorter version of this product, which has 2 nobs for tightening, so the arm stays in place. be warned the longer version only has 1, making it hard to fold the arm straight out. mine is always a bit bent. dosen't bother me too much, more of a minor annoyance.
over all, it's a great way to cut down on the annoying noises your mic can pick up from being on a desk or table. me gusta.
UPDATE: WHY FROM 4 STARS TO 2:
i wouldn't expect this arm to last longer than 2 years with minimal moving about. and if you're getting it for a heavier mic, such as a blue yetti, get something more sturdy! i was constantly having to tighten the bolts that hold the arm in place and ONE BROKE OFF in the process rendering the arm useless, the weight of the blue yetti caused the mic to sag heavily and every time i wanted to use my mic i would have to lift and readjust the whole arm. that is the only movement on this mic/arm in it's around 2 years life.
good for a smaller, lighter mic. bad for anything heavy
Some surgery was required on BOTH the boom and the iPad mount, but the combination works beautifully.
