To me it sounds about as you would expect. it's a two way speaker, with good bass response, marginal highs...I have played all sorts of music through it so far. Classical music with high tones sound kind of crummy (Dance of the sugar plum fairy from the Nutcracker for example....the high xylophone portions hurts your ears through this speaker.) it makes the really high notes sound kind of screechy (also songs with High vocal tones like Maria mcKee's "if love is a red dress")....But if you have decent equilization, you should be able to shape the tone appropriately.
The package came with a box, inside of another box, with styrofoam packing in the inside box. The housing is a sturdy plastic. The input 1/4 inch input really is poor quality, using a spring locking mechanism. If you are unplugging the wiring a lot, I could foresee this part falling apart/not working. it's very cheesy, but I haven't had a problem with it. I have it sitting ont he floor, not on stands. It does come with four fairly think rubber feet, so it sits approx an inch off of the table/floor etc.
It's a decent buy for the money....for $100 it has decent quality with the ability to push a lot of air. Not for audiophiles, but works for monitors or casual parties. Now the price has gone up to $122--figures...lol.
