Duncan Mavin is a seasoned international financial journalist. Born and raised near Newcastle, he studied history at Durham University and spent a decade as a chartered accountant in the City and in Toronto. He then became a financial reporter and foreign correspondent for Canada’s National Post. Since 2009, he has been a reporter and editor for Dow Jones publications including the Wall Street Journal, based in Hong Kong, London and New York. Duncan wrote and edited the Journal’s influential Heard on the Street column for several years, and was the Journal’s Financial Editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He was also the Managing Editor for Barron’s Group. His writing has also appeared in Barron’s, Financial News and on Bloomberg News. He lives with his wife and three sons in the UK, and is a long-suffering fan of Sunderland football club. The Pyramid of Lies is his first book.

Extremely well researched book that shows how Lex Greensill wanted to be a aristocratic billionaire at every cost, how Softbank and General Atlantic used the supply chain funds to support their own start ups, and how Credit Suisse ignored multiple warning signs to jump into bed with Lex, hoping to make tons of money on the back of clients who had no clue of the true nature of these dubious funds. Great read of how greed can turn good ideas into a pyramid of lies…

As an Australian I ought to be ashamed of him but actually I'm aghast that the authorities in Australia and GB have not brought him to justice .....yet.

Such a remarkable story and so eloquently written. Mavin has meticulously researched one of the biggest cases of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” ever. A story of mindblowing greed for money and status. It’s horrifying how the Financial and Political “establishments” turned such a blind eye to Greensill’s activities and were therefore complicit. The massive ego of one man has severely damaged so many companies, public sector organisations, ordinary workers’ jobs, investors’ nest eggs, pension funds, economies of whole towns and political reputations. He almost kept it going and was even awarded a CBE under a Prime Minister who personally made Millions of pounds. Well done Duncan Mavin for sticking with this research - and congratulations on a brilliant book!!
