I don't take the bowls from hot to cold or cold to hot so I can't say how well they hold up. When Corning owned Pyrex the bowls for the U.S. were made from borosilicate glass, (like the 200-inch mirror in the Palomar Mountain observatory) which has excellent heat shock characteristics. I believe the current Pyrex bowls are a more conventional glass and are tempered, to minimize stresses in the glass, to protect them. Borosilicate was a better solution, but likely these bowls will take some abuse
I was immediately disappointed by the quality of the bowls in the new set. Two of the bowls had defects. One had a wavy edge on top. The other bowl was also misshapen in the actual bowl part. Very noticeable to sight and touch.
The next day I went to Target and bought the same bowl set (on sale) and opened the box in the car before I left (to check it out). It was perfect.
Don't know if the bad set was just a fluke or if the seller (Nilmee) knowingly sent me "seconds".
Anyway, have always loved the bowls for mixing, serving and storage. Glad to have lids. They fit nice and snug but not a struggle to put on. I bought an Anchor Hocking set with lids about 6 months ago and I am donating them. Hate those lids. You think you have them on nice and tight and soon as you turn your back, they're laying loosely on top of the bowl. Not so with the Pyrex.
Do note that these bowls are gigantic!! The smaller 2 are more "normal" sizes for what you'd think of as tupperware bowls, and the larger 2 are more like mixing bowl sizes (not really tupperware!). These larger ones are useful for storing large batches of pre-made salads or perhaps just cookie dough that you made in that bowl and don't want to transfer. Otherwise, it may be overkill if you're just looking for straight storage bowls!!
The bowls nest in each other nicely for storage in your kitchen.
I also find it silly that the standard labeling is to count lid and container as separate pieces, just thought I'd point that out if anyone didn't know!
Do note these caveats I mentioned, and if you know this is still what you are looking for, it would be a great choice.
They are great all-purpose bowls and they've held up well to a lot of use in the last six months. We've been using them for salads, mixing cookies and breads, refrigerated items like jello, and they look nice enough to go from the kitchen to the dining room table, which makes meals a lot less fussy.
I like that they are dishwasher and microwave safe. We have a nice set of metal mixing bowls but their uses are limited to mixing or storing foods - no oven or microwave! I haven't tried using the Pyrex in the oven yet, though they are marked as being oven-safe.
The lids are a little difficult to get on and off, and I don't know that they will stretch out over time. We rarely use the lids. They do form a nice air-tight seal and are marked with the size of the bowl, which makes it easier to find the right one ... if I can remember which bowl is which. :)
