Pyrex has been making these bowls since dinosaurs walked the earth. They're cheap, easy to clean, right sized, durable, yadi, yadi, yada. Oven and microwave safe. Should be in every kitchen. A set of Pyrex, a metal set of mixing bowls, and maybe a set of plastic bowls (you can take to a friend's house and not need to kill someone if they "borrow" it) is all you need for most kitchens. When between he and my two children they'd whittled it down to two, I found this set and was extremely happy - until he decided it would be fine to stick one in the oven rather than cleaning a casserole dish..... At any rate, these are great for doing what they were designed to do, they look good, they stack nicely, they are fine in the dishwasher, and give you a great variety of sizes to work with. These bowls are thick, heavy, and seem very durable. I use the large one to marinate meat, and I use the smaller ones for holding vegetables when I want to free up my cutting board space. The smallest bowl also serves great for little snacks. I did not use glass bowls before this, so I do feel like I have to be extra careful with these bowls, but they do seem solid and sturdy. Washing them makes me a little nervous because they feel smooth and slippery and it's hard to grasp and hold them when you are washing them. I constantly feel like they're going to slip out of my fingers, so I'm extra careful handling them. Gripping them may be hard because they are heavy and slippery when washing, so I feel like maybe a person with arthritis may have difficulty holding these when washing dishes. Lastly, I do like that the 3 sizes can be nested, so it saves space when you store them.
