The simple power supply tester is something cheap, simple, and very much appreciated. It's little details like this that show actual care for the product and the buyers. It likely cost them very little, but adds a ton of value to the purchase.
I did some load testing under a IR sensor hitting it hard with SoTT's benchmark on a continuous loop with a Xeon e3 1270 v3 and a GTX 770 (hottest of my spare parts on the bench), with a slew of spare hard drives attached (and set to remain spun up) to increase the load. Got it up to 612 watts from the wall (testing the 650 watt semi-modular version) and it handled it with no obvious heat issues, excess noise, etc.
I've seen some reviewers claiming it doesn't have the +4 connect for the CPU, I don't know if that's specific to certain models, if they fixed this, or if the other reviewers are just blind, but the one I got has the usual +8 that can be split into the two +4 for the CPU, that's part of the non-modular connects.
My only complaint would be that they have a SATA power run hard-cabled on the semi-modular. Not a big deal to tuck out of the way, but really it's not a part moving forward that should be fixed, even on a semi-modular design. 24 pin mobo? Fine. +8 that's 4/4? Fine. SATA? Not so much.
Overall though I'm very impressed with the build quality and attention to detail. $53 for a semi-modular 80+ 650w supply that actually seems well built, WITH a testing plug? Given the choices out there I'd pick this all day every day. I've seen big names -- Antec and Corsair for example -- who don't provide this much value at double the cost.
If their goal is to take on the big boys, they're off to an amazing start!
The one thing that I am concerned with is how many cables it comes with. If your running multiple GPUs, then what it comes with won't work for you. Fortunately, I'm only running one 1080GTX because most of my games don't really support SLI, but now I need an extra one of the double PCIe cabled that it comes with because the single one is useless (most NVidia cards now take an 8-pin plus a 6-pin plug anyways). So maybe if they either offered to include two of the PCIe double cables, or create a seperate listing for individual cables so that you can purchase more (it would be nice to have another molex cable than the single cable supplied). There are more receptacles on the PSU than the number of included cables, so it should work.
