I bought 10 of these from the seller Amamax thinking they'll work as well as other gold(plated) adapters that I currently have or at least as well as the black plastic ones but I was wrong.
These came individually sealed in small plastic pouches. The first few that I opened did not work at all. I realized that the tips of these adapters are made of some sort of composite materials and not the same material as the rest of the adapter as I can clearly see the seams on the tip and the gold plating on the tip is matte whereas elsewhere it is shiny. Upon further inspection, I noticed the 3.5mm hole where the earphone/headphone is plugged into this adapter is a little loose and would not make contact with the earphone plug. Some of the adapters would just fall right off from gravity. In comparison to the other gold(plated) headphone adapters that I owned, these are longer yet much lighter and doesn't snap onto the earphone plugs. The 3.5mm female side of the adapter sticks out further than almost twice that of other gold(plated) adapters that I own.
I own several earphones and headphones ranging from $10-$300 and tried them all on the defective adapters to make sure it wasn't that my earphone tips were a little small. None of the defective adapters worked on any of my earphones or headphones. I gave up hope and didn't even open a few of them after seeing how bad these were.
I contacted the seller (Amamax) to try to have the seller provide some sort of customer service but instead they treated me as if I was lying and didn't know what I was talking about. They said that they have not had even one defective out of the ten of thousands that they sold which is obviously hard to believe given the number of bad ratings on here. They even turned around and questioned if in fact I own high-end earphones and headphones as I stated if I were using their cheap adapters. Whether I do or not isn't relevant and has no bearing on the defective adapters. The fact is these adapters are horrible in my experience with them.
These were not even worth paying for shipping to return to them as it would eat into the shipping fees. If you were to buy one, go ahead and take a chance. However, if you're thinking about grabbing a few...don't. Spend your money on some higher quality ones as you would probably spend just about the same when taking into account of about half of what you receive may be defective.
I may post a comparison video when I have time.

As long as you keep it clean of corrosion and dirt it will play your audio clearly and cleanly. Just the right accessory for plugging a pair of regular headphones into a large mixing board output, or cellphone audio into a guitar amplifier.

I bought this adapter so I could watch late nite tv without waking the family, and after using it twice, it simply separated and came apart. The large burled piece that you put your smaller headphone jack into separated from the piece that plugs into my reciever/amplifier.
Do not buy this product, it's basically garbage.

Bought this adapter because it was very cheap and I needed it for my headphones. The 'gold plating' wears off. I don't think this is really made of metal, or at least real metal. It's very light. It worked well though, no connection issues or crackling.
Mine broke while plugged into a guitar effects processor. I accidentally stepped on it with slippers while it was plugged in (headphones were removed, just the adapter was plugged in). It shattered into many pieces. I'm going to replace it with a better one, knowing that I need to spend more than a couple bucks.
I really did hope for this one to work well for me. I was going to buy several more as backups if the one I bought lasted.

Read other reviews - it falls apart - in fact this one was in 3 pieces when I took it out of the package - the cost to return it (which Amazon system says buyer needs to pay return postage) - even if it worked it's not quality - it seems to have been snapped together and it seems to fall apart on others (see other reviews)
bottom line - add a couple of dollars to the price and buy a better one at RadioShack or Best buy or Target or Walmart...
This is not a smart purchase.
REVISED: The company did refund my purchase after I complained - did not even have to return the product. The product itself is still a defective product - buy something better.

It would be hard for these adapters to go wrong. Just pay attention to whom you buy it from or it may take a while for you to receive them like it happens to me.
The reason is that they are shipped straight from China to you...
Edit 08/23/2011
I have to edit this review because the seller can change so I would encourage you to check the location of the seller. The one I was reviewed was based in Hong-Kong and the products took maybe 10 days to arrive.
To the discharge of the seller, his address was easy to find. In any case, it was not mentioned upfront when ordering.
As for the connectors, they are perfectly functional.

I plugged this adapter into my DJ mixer and plugged my headphones in to it, and I didn't touch it at all after that. The weight of the headphone cable is the only force I ever applied. Within a week (only 3 sessions), the signal through the headphones started crackling and the level was very low. It sounded like the cartridge on my turntable had a bad connection with the tonearm, so I checked that, but that didn't fix it. Only when I wiggled the headphone adapter did the sound cut in (and soon back out again). When I pulled out the adapter to look at it, it fell apart in my hands!

So after reading the reviews I decided they were cheap enough to risk buying ten of these "QUALITY HEADPHONE ADAPTERS" thinking that at least one of two of them would work without falling apart. Well I struck "Gold", three out of the ten worked just fine as long as you use electrical tape to stop whatever you plug into them from falling out. Oh, by the way they sellers left out a word in the description when describing them as "GOLD PLUG"; they meant 'FOOLS GOLD PLUG'. There is nothing gold about these except the color. They are made out of some kind of cheap brass alloy; you can even smell it.
