A quick note, once you have the tablet set up, shut down and reboot. At first I could not go from the window's 8 to my desktop or even close some of the programs. Once the View rebooted everything worked perfectly. I did not activate the Microsoft package, it's only free for one year than you have to pay. I installed Open office, which is smaller in size and yet does everything Microsoft package does. I also installed Norton Suites, it worked perfectly on the View. Let me tell you this, I read where it boots up in 10 seconds, I did not believe it but I will say it does boot up very fast maybe a little longer than 10 sec but not much longer.
The transition from program to program was flawless. I installed a 32g micro card and coped all of my music and video's on the card. The part I love the best is being able to work over my network, something I was not able to do with my Zoom tablet.
The front and back camera are ok but will not win awards for best picture. It is fine for Skype but I would use my stand alone camera to take pictures.
The Internet was fast, as I started with, this is exactly like using my desktop window's 8 computer. Lets get to the keyboard. It is not a bad quality keyboard and servers a duel purpose of protecting the tablet. I'm a touch typist so this keyboard was not designed for fast typing. The on screen keyboard, as far as I have seen works well but it is to large for the screen. Most of the time it covers up my log in portion of a site. I am able to move the log in screen up. The androids I used in the past had one great feature, as you type it anticipates the word you are spelling, with the View it has a drop down but and presents a list of words but it does slow down typing compared to what I was use to seeing.
The touch screen worked perfectly. Only once did the computer lock up, I think I may have pushed it past it's abilities. I am on day two and the tablet is fully loaded and running well. I have kept it off the power cord and used it with the battery for over three hours and it was only half way depleted. I usually put my tablet on charge before going to bed so I do not know how long it took to recharge. I can not say enough about this tablet. If you are a windows 8 person you will find your learning curve will be 0%.
It is a good looking tablet, nice feel to it. Buy one you'll love it.
Pros:
- It never lagged with normal tasks: Internet browsing, playing 720P video, word processing
- It never lagged with CPU intensive tasks: gaming with Age of Empires II HD, Cold Alley, Modern combat 5: blackout
- Though having a older processor Z3740D(can overclock to 1.83GHZ) than X2's Z3736F (which on book can overclock to 2.13GHZ), this machine has better Silverbench Performance (P2354 for Quantum vs P1807 for X2) and Stress scrores after doing all windows updates on both tablets.
- Keyboard is nifty and handy.
- Holding it in hands feels much better with the soft grip material used in the back vs X2.
Now for the Cons:
- Gets warm on the left hand side back esp. around the lower left. It especially gets warmer with gaming, and while charging. Can someone tell from their experience if this is normal ? Nothing scorching hot but warm.I did not notice any warmth using X2.
- Both left and right speakers are placed on the top right corner just few inches from each other. Well, this obviously is not a good design choice but also lacking is any kind of bass from the speakers. Playing music from X2 which has front facing speakers on both sides is much better with sufficient bass and mid-tones.
- The keyboard cover only has one or two angles when used as a stand, vs X2 has much intelligent design for keyboard cover which supports multiple angles. I like my screen to be more like 45 degrees vs 80 degrees with this tablet. It makes it harder to view svreen when you are lying down and using it, or having it in your lap with keyboard.
- Hard drive space: 5GB is set aside for recovery. Windows takes 7.2GB. About 1GB goes to your apps. So that leaves you 31-13=18GB for your usage. So get a big and fadt Micro SD Card.
- There seems to be a slight flex on the bottom left of the screen in front.
With all that said, this seems like a well built tablet for its times competing( and exceeding in value) well with other name brands and I hope Quantum View continues to produce high quality devices like this in future.
