Review

"Marking the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne, this official souvenir album of her reign is a beauty. For any of us with a felt affection for the Queen and a desire to have a memento of this historic Jubilee, this album is a treasure indeed."

This is a delightful book - over 300 pictures depicting many aspects of Queen Elizabeth II's life and reign. It's beautifully laid out and printed. It's not just a random collection of pictures. They're carefully chosen and arranged year-by-year from 1926 until 2012. They show many aspects of Elizabeth's life, including her family life, and explain the role of the monarch. So it's a biography-in-pictures and includes photos of her jewellery, regalia, gifts from heads of state and family and friends, her gowns, official documents and much more.

I'm surprised how much information has been crammed - or I should say artfully fitted - into such a small space - 144 pages. It's an album of pictures with detailed captions, not a text book. But as someone once said, 'One picture is worth a thousand words.' This book proves it. Study these images and you'll find out a lot about the woman on the throne.

Not everything, of course! If you're expecting gossip and scandal this is not the book for you. This after all is an official publication produced by Royal Collection Publications. It's an affectionate portrait, but does a surprisingly good job. There are deft touches, gentle humour and details I knew nothing about. Who, for example, would imagine her husband - the Duke of Edinburgh - designing a stained-glass window for a royal chapel at Windsor? But there it is.

Elizabeth II may not be the most exciting leader in the world. Not for her dramatic gestures, or speeches. That's not her style. She's reserved, wary and discreet. No back-slapping, or dashing into crowds. Her role is to provide continuity and stability - something controversial heads of state have difficulty delivering.

This is a 'must' have for all fans of Her Majesty the Queen - as well as Royal followers everywhere. Royal Collection Publications did it again - great quality and beautifully put together. Text and pictures are wonderfully arranged - simply, this was a delight to receive. Also, please look for the other books in the collection of Royal Publications - they are of the same high standard and quality.

What great pictures. I got this for my Mother and I read it first. It is a really good book. I think I got my Mother a birthday gift she will really like. I would recommend this to anyone who has a interest in the Royal Family.

I preordered this book and waited a long time to receive it, but it was very disappointing, quite a let down. There is nothing new in this book, and very few new photographs. If you know much about the royals at all, skip buying this book. I had expected quite a lot from the diamond jubilee souvenir book.
Wished I'd saved my money and bought something out of Majesty magazine to remember this occasion.

Gift for a friend that loves QE II and most everything for which she stands! Maybe it's a little biased but after all , she has been on the throne for over six decades and through the up's and down's she has managed her monarchy wonderfully. WELL, WELL WORTH A WATCH!

This is a lovely little souvenir book (emphasis on souvenir) written in honor of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. It allots 1-3 pages on every year of her life and snippets the most significant events. There are many photographs not widely circulated and a number of more detailed or clear photographs/cut-outs of jewelry and dresses.
I was expecting a more extensive photobook. Expected many more pictures. For that I would suggest "Queen Elizabeth II" by Elizabeth Roberts (2009). However, of course, that book does not specify the Diamond Jubilee. My other disappointment was the small size. I was expecting a large coffee table book and received a rather small side-table book.
Overall, I am quite pleased with this book and would recommend it for any Queen Elizabeth II fan.

Any anglophile or person who believes, as I do, that Queen Elizabeth II, has done an amazing job in office, would enjoy this souvenir album. The book documents key events in her extraordinary and remarkable life of 86 years. She is now 88! The illustrations, 300 of which are in color, are lovely. The book is definitely a fine addition to any bookshelf or library.

Nice photo montage of HRH Elizabeth II. I enjoyed the photos of her as a young princess, as well as the ones of her as a young queen with her own children. For an anglophile, it was a great purchase!
