Sheri Velarde weaves a tale of an elven princess bored with her life. Then again, after 2,000 years of the same thing every day, I’d be pretty bored too. Zanna takes what should have been a routine job and uncovers dark magic at work.
The romance between Will and Zanna is unique, as is the interaction between Zanna and the other characters. I must say I am instantly left wanting both prequels and sequels to this. I can’t wait to see if Sheri Velarde can continue her magic!
I recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy novels, as well as anyone who loves a light romance.
Zanna meets Will in an unlikely place and situation. The sparks are instant between them. They are drawn to each other and can't stay away from each other. The magic set forth by her ancestors ensured that once she found her mate she would know--and Will was it for her.
They help each other solve some perplexities about the magic realm and the human one. They get through a lot to save their people and remain together forever. Their tale is unique and full of intrigue worthy of reading.
Zanna an assassin elf witnesses another lowly sprite breaking a sacred code of magic that could expose their world exposing them to humans and decides to kill the sprite. Instead of killing the sprite she takes pity on her and spares her life wondering why the sprite and her mother can’t get into the magical realm. In doing so Zanna meets a Halfling Will who is unaware of his magical heritage being part elf and human.
I liked Will from the get go even though he seemed a little naïve and ignorant to the magical goings-on. I never quite understood his magical ways even though it was hinted at throughout but I still wanted to know and read about what his magical abilities were as both human and elfish. What makes him so unique that he was considered odd and magical to us was he telekinetic; could he read minds fly what. I never connected with Zanna though she seemed a little to intimidating for me and maybe that was the point. I also wouldn’t have minded if there was a little bit more on the intimacy interactions between Zanna and Will they go to be alone have sex well at least I think they had sex not really sure now I don’t want Ms. Velarde to go all descriptive erotica on me but the interaction lacked passion for what I imagine both Zanna and Will to feel plus Zanna ends up pregnant too. So yes something happened unless it was immaculate conception which is totally feasibly possible. Also I never fully formed in my head what sprites actually were so had a hard time imagining what they physically looked like. I assumed they were of course humans but with some small telltale sign of being fairy their small stature compared to everyone else perhaps. Unless we are talking about a beverage or cumulonimbus clouds than I really don’t know. I wondered after Will rejected Alana if she could possibly have someone to maybe an elf I would hate to think that she lived her normal spritely mundane life alone with her mother. Still I enjoyed the book rated it four stars can recommend it for a light romantic paranormal read and will get more books from Ms. Velarde!
