While its no doubt usually true that “nothing good ever comes from a story that starts: ‘you will never believe what I just saw in the bathroom,’” many good things come from this novel, the third entry in the Wimpy Kid–like yet distinctive series. As sixth grade winds down, best friends Lydia and Julie deal with issues such as a friend’s mother’s death, plagiarism, and the afore-referenced restroom graffiti in affecting and funny back-and-forth journal entries. Awareness of previous volumes will help, but anyone who goes to school will recognize the girls’ struggles and successes and cheer them on. Grades 3-6. --Andrew Medlar --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The book has a good amount of illustration as well, which has turned into a big selling point for my kid.
