Product Description

This unit is the same as Werners PK70-1 Ladder Leveler. It will fit virtually any aluminum, fiberglass, or wood extension and articulating ladders. It comes with one leveler and two "base" mounting brackets which easily mount to the side rails of your ladder. This allows you to, in seconds, put the leveler on the ladder when you need it and remove it when you don't. It operates using your foot, freeing your hands to hold the ladder. It is very durable and made of high strength structural aircraft aluminum. Purchase an additional set of mounting "base" units, LL-QC-1, and use your leveler on multiple ladders!

I bought this item because I was painting the side of a house with about a 15% grade in the ground below it. I could have rented a man-lift for much more, but this item costs only $100 including shipping. It installed easily (though the directions were a bit too wordy and the pictures unclear), and it works great. Also, it was one of the least expensive, but is really heavy duty. Included are two bases that attach to the bottom of the legs of a ladder, and one adjustable foot that can easily attach to either base (by simply pulling on a lever it removes and clicks into place). I would say this is an excellent product!

It took a while to attach the base pieces to my ladder (a Werner MT-17); attaching the bases requires drilling holes into the ladder. Once attached, however, this is very easy to use. I use it to work on the outside of a screened-in porch. The ground slopes, so a regular ladder wouldn't work. The extenders are finely adjustable enough to work on sloping ground, and it feels very steady.

I have bought several different ladder levelers, and this is by far the best. The mounts attach fairly easily with a drill and a couple wrenches. Once attached, the leveler easily connects and disconnects with the mounts on either side. This leveler is far easier to adjust than every other model I have used. You can leave it attached to either side and it is out of the way, yet ready to use when you need it. Changes sides in a matter of seconds. Another great thing about this model is that you can buy just the connectors and mount them on other ladders. So you can have just one leveler and easily use it on three or four ladders.

I bought this because my lot has a lot of slant to it. I installed it on my Werner 16' aluminum extension ladder and then bought some extra bases and installed them on my Werner 32' aluminum extension ladder. It's a well thought out design and well made. The actual leveler unit is heavy so I like that you can take it off when not needed.
I expect that I'll need the full range of adjustment this unit can provide because of the slope in the yard by my house. As it comes out of the box if I mounted the bases as directed then I'd lose about 2" of the available adjustment, that's why I only give it four stars. There are three mounting holes in each base that go on either side of the ladder. The mounting instructions suggest that one should place the bases so that two of the holes are above the bottom rung of your ladder and the other hole below the bottom rung. I can't do this with either of my ladders because that places the mounted leveler "foot" below the "foot" of my ladder which it needs to be level with or above. If I move the bases up so all three mounting holes are above the bottom rung of my ladder then I'm losing or wasting about 2" of the available leveler adjustment because this places the "foot" of the leveler about 2" above the "foot" of my ladders. If there were more than 3 mounting holes available in the bases then one could pick which three to use allowing more mounting options. If one isn't going to need the full range of adjustment then this will never be a problem for them.
I really do like the units and do recommend them. I especially like that they are well made and easy to use. My wife has no problem using them by herself on the small ladder.

I am using this outdoors to level a ladder on sloping ground, and it works quite well. I like that it is removable since my ladder seems to get heavier every year. I haven't had it long so I'm not sure how durable it will be. I wonder about dirt getting into the ratchet teeth and the spring. Installation was fairly easy and straightforward, though the instructions could be a bit more clear. The only modification I needed to make was to substitute a stack of fender washers for the spacers that were supplied. There are ridges down the side of my aluminum ladder and the spacers were too wide to fit between them.

I just spent a whole bunch of time installing the leveler exactly as specified in the instructions. For my new Werner 28' aluminum ladder, the instructions state to drill the first mounting hole 4" from the bottom of the ladder. After getting the bases installed and mounting the leveler, I've found that the leveler sits about 1/2" lower than the ladder feet when mounted on either side. This means I can't leave the leveler on and use the ladder in a level application, and that the ladder will always stand unlevel when the leveler is mounted. Maybe I'll raise my rating once I get over the aggravation of having to re-drill and re-install the base units, to raise them 3/4". I also hope that having another set of mounting holes, which are rather large at 11/32", drilled so close to the first set will not compromise the strength of the connection.

I'm really impressed with the quality of this kit. It seems to be very well made, easy to use and install. A previous review mentioned that the mounting instructions were not correct resulting in the base units being mounted too low. Apparently they have been updated since then because everything went well when I installed these units on a Keller fiberglass ladder.
