Love this series! This book can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the previous books to have a better understanding of the characters. Here the reader meets Warren and Silver. Silver has just walked out on her wedding, after being jilted at the altar, and decides to go to a bar to drink her cares away. As she is feeling down and out, she meets Warren a sexy aussie who offers her an escape of having a wild weekend to unleash her hidden desires in the most decadent way. Once the weekend is over, Warren returns back to Tahiti but is unable to stop thinking about Silver. She is having the same problem but now has something more pressing to deal with. After a year passes, Warren returns back to Vancouver for his mother’s wedding and all he wants to do is see Silver. How will Warren react when he learns what Silver has been keeping from him? Will he be able to forgive her? Can they have their happily ever after? Ms. Cox has written an entrancing storyline with affable characters. The story is full of steamy scenes, humor, twists and drama along with bringing back the brothers to give updates into their lives. I look forward to reading the next book when the reader gets to meet the missing sister.
I volunteered to read an arc of this story.
When I read that Silver Belle had been left at the altar by her low-life-lying-cheating-nearly-incestual-skank-butt fiancee, Trent, I wanted to exert vigilante justice for her, and take out some hostility on him (and that's putting it nicely). What kind of person decides to wait until the wedding ceremony, in front of hundreds of guests, to declare his love for his step-sister, Candy, who the bride had (up until that point) considered to be a friend? Trent and Candy's love affair reminds me of a line in a Joey and Rory song, "Cheater, cheater, where'd you get that no good white trash hoe?" (Rest in peace, Joey! <3)
Whitley Cox has the remarkable ability of taking short term sexual trysts and turning them into much more, often with added twists that the reader won't see coming. I am obsessed with crime shows and romance novels, so it is a hobby of mine to try to predict how the episodes or stories will end. I am usually sucessfull, except when it comes to books written by Whitley. No matter how hard I try, I can never crack the code. It's incredibly frustrating, yet oh so satisfying at the same time! The cliffhangers at the end of the books add to the eager anticipation of awaiting the next part of the story. (Most of Whitley's books have at least one other companion story.)
Whitley also takes what seems like very unusual circustances and making them seem like everyday occurances. As a reader, I find myself forming a bond with at least one of the characters in every story. In "Quick and Reckless", that character was Silver Belle. Silver may be a fictional character, but when I read all that Trent did to her, I began to feel very protective of her. In the South, when we get angry, we have a saying that we are "about to open a can of whoop (insert synonym for a donkey here)". That's exactly what I imagined for Trent. I have never been left at the altar (and I hope that I never am), but I could feel Silver's heartbreak when it happened to her. When Silver met Walter, I could feel her need to feel loved, to have all of her hurt, anger, and betrayal disappear.
Warren McAllister is another one of Whitley's perfectly sculpted Adonis-like male specimen. Even without seeing the cover image, which is beyond gorgeous, I could create an image of just how incredibly sexy Warren is. (Thank you for that, Whitley!) I fell in love with his character, and I enjoyed seeing him grow and develop as the story progressed.
The major bombshell near the end of the story was PHENOMENAL! Oh mylanta! It had my emotions all over the place! I was nervous, anxious, and excited all at the same time. The way Whitley introduced the bombshell was perfectly written, and the way Silver and Warren handled it is exactly how I could imagine it happening in real life.
The only negative thing I can say about this book is the way the second bombshell was introduced. I get that it needed to be there to have the reader excited for the next book, but it was thrown out there, then the book slammed shut. The big event occurring at the same time didn't get the conclusion it needed before this one was introduced, so it almost overshadowed it. It felt a tad rushed as well, trying to throw just enough in there to get the reader interested before ending. Overall, "Quick and Reckless" was another steamy and emotionally charged read from Whitley Cox. I'll be waiting on the edge of my seat for the next one!
I have really enjoyed this series. I've read all four and am bummed it is over! Maybe there will be a surprise 5th one!
Warren meets Silver in a bar in a hotel we assume he and his brothers own. Silver has just come from her wedding where her fiance left her to run off with his step sister, who he has been in love with since he was a preteen. Silver wants to step out of her life for a few days and Warren seems to always be up for a fun time with a beautiful woman.
I'm not the type of woman who would meet a guy in a bar and then spend 2 or 3 days in his hotel room without leaving but I sure enjoyed reading about it. Way better sex scenes than 50 shades. It does get into some pretty light BDSM.
The time in the hotel room when they first meet lasts over 40% into the book or possibly further. There are a number of shocks when Warren comes back to find out he might be a dad.
My favorite books are ones with a strong family connection where each of the siblings or cousins find love and the group grows. The books have to be well written and I enjoy a good bit of spice.
And man, the guys must have some of the most potent sperm out there. The women seem to get knocked up every time they look at each other.
