This is NOT a get-rich-quick guide. This is what beginners should really be reading.
Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2013Verified Purchase
It is not a get-rich-quick guide. There are no shortcuts in our business unless 1) you get incredibly lucky or 2) you fall in with a shady group of scammers. Neither are good for long-term success (and one may even get you in trouble). Working in the Affiliate Marketing industry is said to be more of a marathon than a sprint - and this guide will show beginners how to take those first steps.
Divided into three sections, the narrative begins by describing the basic ideas of what it means to work in the affiliate marketing industry. The second section adds enough in-depth information to actually begin and maintain ones own marketing website. The final section takes those ideas and embellishes them with more advanced tenets of the industry to take that "working site" and help the new affiliate marketer move it to the next level.
So, what are my credentials for offering this review? I have been working in affiliate marketing for well over a dozen years, attend major conferences and have been published in a major industry magazine. I wish a guide such as this had been available when I was getting started (late in the last millennium). I learned much of what Geno presents here by the old-fashioned method of trial and error, which, of course, takes a lot longer.
My intro to this review mentions "luck." It is well known that the harder one works the luckier they seem to be. With that cliche aside, I can say that this book is certainly worth the little it costs and the time it takes to read. You will gain an understanding about what it really takes to get started in the world of online marketing. Where you go from there is up to you...

I wish I had this guide when I was new to affiliate marketing. It's straightforward and practical so you won't waste your time but can start with solid information. My favorite part is that he talked about datafeeds and shared over 20 different datafeed readers/tools. Datafeeds are the way to go (change up the descriptions though!).
He also shows you how to build direct links to products. Very helpful.
I like that he makes it clear that if you want to be successful you'll have to WORK at it. He writes something like this: No Super Affiliate (a term for the top earners in the industry) reaches the heights without putting in countless hours of diligent study. He tells you where to go online to ask questions and get support. I might add that there are Facebook groups too. But all the information in the world won't help if you don't dedicate the time to learn and practice.
That said I'd like to see more examples of affiliate sites (though most affiliates won't share). That's what I wanted as a beginner.
Gene is an expert and he knows what he is doing. You won't be wasting your time or money buying this guide.

Lots of relevant information presented in a structured and accessible way. Some parts need updating though. There have been developments and a number of links do not work anymore.

There are few people who understand affiliate marketing and to the extent as does Geno. This book, as well as his others, are rare insights into a very complex and secretive industry/profession.
Geno's unique writing style commences with entry level and basic understandings of affiliate marketing, then narrows itself into advanced details and strategies which even seasoned affiliates would benefit from - all while remaining focused and collected.
He does a wonderful job of breaking this book into three sections, the basics, the day to day and advanced. If you follow along, you'll be certain to take away a great deal of knowledge and inspiration to put to work.
You can either waste $2 on a latte or buy this book and invest in yourself, it's your choice. I recommend the latter.

This ebook, written for an audience of web publishers (affiliates) seeking advertising revenue from affiliate programs, was a disappointment after reading the same author's excellent book, Affiliate Program Management: An Hour a Day, written for an audience of merchant advertisers.
This is a loosely organized collection of "frequently-asked questions" and answers. While generally well-written and informative, this book doesn't really provide the "how-to" quick start guide promised by the title.
In fairness, writing for this audience (publishers/affiliates) is harder than writing for their merchant advertiser counterparts. And there is useful information here.

A lot of content stuffing, too much talk on legalities and very thin on practical advice on how to actually do affiliate marketing. Not recommended at all

My motivation for reading this book was to understand how the best affiliates work, what they look for and what motivates them. As a leader of a consultancy I have a number of clients who are merchants, improving their performance is my critical objective. With that aim in mind, this book met my objective. So why only 3 stars? Well, the subject matter is one that I've never been comfortable with as a creator of beautiful experiences. How can one reconcile the inherent 'hackerish' tactics of affiliate marketers with the needs of a beautiful web? Well, simply, you cannot. All that can be hoped for is that the primary objective of affiliateers becomes the creation and delivery of quality content that has purpose and meaning, with a happy by-product being an affiliate marketing business. Alas, this desire is a fallacy, for as long as the innate human desire to 'get rich quick' exists, as will valueless affiliate sites. So, for that reason alone this book gets 3 stars. For everything else, it's a 5 star book. Easy to read, easy to understand, concise, actionable, and overall very well written.

Solid read if you're just starting out with affiliate marketing

Evgenii's book on affiliate marketing is a great starter for anyone wanting to learn more about this important and growing area of Internet marketing. In "Quick Start Guide to Affiliate Marketing," the author describes the ins and outs of running an affiliate marketing program. You'll learn about important terminology (you've gotta know your CTR from your EPC and AOV or you're in TROUBLE) as well as the difference between an affiliate merchant and a publisher.
On the all-important topic of profits, the book does a good job of detailing a great method for predicting your potential profits (yes, there's a formula included), a worthwhile section and one most readers will be eager to read. The author also teaches you how to watch out for "leaky" merchant websites, which can rob you of income.
Evgenii's explaination of which types of niches are the most popular, and what motivates people to go online in the first place, is a key chapter you won't want to miss.
One thing the book could use more of are real-world examples. It would be nice to include examples of real blogs or other publisher websites, and dissect their operation piece by piece. Of course, finding someone willing to agree to that kind of disclosure could be a tall order. But it would be worth it.
Overall, a solid read that explains the basics of affiliate marketing. Pair this book with one on blogging and you have a recipe for success.
