Tomie de Paola, a talented and prolific author perhaps best known for Strega Nona, has another winner here. The text is clear, packed with information, and humorous. DePaola keeps his young readers diverted by using a fictional device: a little girl is sinking in quicksand while a boy proceeds to lecture on the subject-- at length-- until the last minute. Of course, she gets her revenge in the end and the readers are lefted wiser and happier. I wish more children's nonfiction authors would appreciate how much information children will sit still for -- even enjoy -- if it is presented imaginatively.

This book went great with a science experiment about Quicksand! I read it to a pre-k, ages 3 - 5, and even though I think it is more suited for Kindergarten and up, the children still got the main points from it during review. The book was in great shape, and shipped fast.

A Kid's Review on November 12, 2013
Format: Hardcover
When I read The Quicksand Book, it was too easy for me,but it was a book about quicksand. The author,a very talented author. Although it is TOMIE dePAOLA, is a fantastic book in a way, I didn't like it because the words are way too easy for me. This book takes place in the jungle. Really silly things happen, like a little girl gets into big trouble when she falls in quicksand, but luckily a young jungle boy comes along and saves her. I think young kids that like jungles will love the book. (P.S You might need a change of clothes, a towel, and a rope if you go to the jungle and end up in quicksand.)
