Taylor knows one thing for certain: she can’t count on anyone. Absolutely, no counting on anyone. At all. Especially not Ryder, her sexy new neighbor that is super dreamy. The guy literally enters her dreams! Or maybe she pulls him in—she’d rather blame it on him. Anything to protect her heart, after all. She’s getting whiplash with his hot and cold vibe, but he’s always there to save her. When Taylor learns about another world, inter-galaxy wars and terrorist plots, Taylor’s going to need lots of saving and protecting her heart may be the least of her worries…
“I couldn’t find a guy who was normal. Noooo. I had to find a guy who could read minds or go into people’s dreams…”—Taylor
I loved this book! If you love broody alpha males and strong yet vulnerable heroines, this book is for you! The author creates a fantastic universe that ties Earth with another planet that’s stuck in a generation-long war over a powerful ore that grants unique abilities. And it just so happens that our heroine stumbles upon some of that powerful stuff. Dream-walking, mind-reading, teleportation… that’s just the start of some of the craziness in store for Taylor. Add in a sexy body guard and it doesn’t seem too bad. Well, except for the mercenary out to kill her.
Ryder’s not really a body guard, but he’s definitely willing to guard Taylor’s body. The two of them have smokin’ chemistry but even that isn’t enough to overcome abandonment and self-worth issues for Taylor and guilt and paranoia concerns for Ryder. Instead, they might actually have to—gasp!—communicate and compromise to give their relationship a shot. After all, long distance and cultural clashes gets new meaning when you’re from different planets—and I’m not talking about Mars and Venus.
The plot was quick moving and gave enough surprises that I didn’t want to put the book down. Add in Taylor’s amusing first-person voice, and it was an entertaining and sexy read with suspense and great characterization. At the end of the book, I wanted more, partly because I enjoyed the story but mostly because the book ends with many unanswered questions and loose ends, signaling that this is going to be a first book in a hopefully great series!
There were times that I felt that Taylor was rehashing on the same thoughts and could have sped the book along, but all in all, I enjoyed the book and particularly thought the dream sequences were well done and vivid. I was drawn into the story and am looking forward to the next installment so that we can get some answers to the many, many hanging threads and teasers. There is resolution between our two leads though so don’t worry about a cliff-hanger with them! The heat level is about medium-high, and Ryder is 1000% swoon worthy…sigh. Overall, this is a 4.5 out of 5 for me!
